Subject: British A-Bomb Test Case
Hi
I realise this is a difficult subject to approach in light of the many
happy memories many of us have had while living in Woomera but it is
clear that this is likewise relevant and I would appreciate any emails
from interested parties who would be willing to provide their
testimonies.

June 5 2009, Mr Justice David Foskett High Court United Kingdome
brought down his findings in the class action of British Nuclear Test
Veterans.  He declared that in essence the Government has a case to
answer and the Nuclear Test Vets have the right to file legal action
against the Government.  This has prompted a response from Kevin Rudd
and Ric Johnstone the leader of the Australian Nuclear Test Veterans
Association (ANVA).

Since leaving Woomera I have been in touch with many of the people
whom we grew up with and their parents.  We have all had our share of
problems health wise and for the most part we were blissfully ignorant
to the causation.  However since being diagnosed with cancer in 2002
and watching my family fall victim one by one to cancer and other
problems I decided to do some research in to what was going on out
there.

Effectively the moratorium on secrets has been lifted by this court
ruling.  The government are now accountable to answer our questions
and frankly scientists such as Professor Al Rowlands, Tame and
Robotham, Dr Roger Cross, Professor Sue Rabbitt-Roff and many other
authors of scientific papers etc as well as the findings of the
McLelland Royal Commission 1984 - it has become evident that Woomera
was exposed to nuclear fall-out contamination and that our health has
not been monitored or supported by DVA since.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Website has posted its eligibility
criteria for non-liability cancer treatment and the criteria and the
exclusions are written very obscurely.  I have put questions via
ministers to Parliament asking for clarification of these criteria and
the exclusions.  Having worked for DVA for almost 18 years of my life,
I know that clarification is very important because if a lay person
were to read them on the website they may be confused and put off.

I have been working with some of these nuclear scientists and
engineers who have been very supportive and who have understood my
situation with compassion and complete understanding.  I have been
encouraged to set up a portal for fellow residents of Woomera to make
contact and perhaps set up a network for shariing information with
those who have an invested interest in this issue.  I would be very
interested to read testimonies from others who were sent to Woomera or
from their children or their children's children.  Prime Minister
Kevin Rudd has declared that he wants more facts and information on
the extent of this matter, including where all the money went that was
allocated by both governments.

It is my hope that those of you who share you testimonies will
understand that they will remain private and secure and will not be
released.  If however, the government do become clearer in their
determination of what they will do for those of us who have doubts and
concerns then we have a platform to contact you and you can proceed
from there.

with kind regards
Deb Melrose
