Subject: Dragonfly: Graphic Flutterer

Hi all,

Took this shot at Minnippi Parklands, Tingalpa, Brisbane while trialling a new lens.
The lens is a Sigma 50 - 500 mm zoom; not actually a macro or close-up lens but it was handy in this
case as the dragonfly was some distance below me as I stood on a foot-bridge over a creek.

This also gave me the chance to try out my new dragonfly field guide: The Complete Field Guide to
Dragonflies of Australia by Gunther Theischinger and John Hawking (2006).
This dragonfly has been found over a large part of Australia as well as Moluccas, New Guinea and
nearby islands, and New Caledonia.

Cheers

Very nice shot Bob,

I have the same Sigma lens,  and use it with a Canon 350 D, though
concentrate on birds mainly. Ive been delighted with the lens
performance thus far - a tad heavy and doesnt have image
stabilisation, but overall I've had some great results with a tripod.
Ive used it hand held a few times with mixed results. I made the
switch from digiscoping and sharpness has been the defining
difference in digiscoping and using a traditional lens.

Hope to launch a website soon with a few of my results.

cheers
