Subject: Indian or South Asian Chameleon

Hi,
Chamaeleo zeylanicus.
Found in Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka - this is South Asia's sole
representative of an otherwise essentially Afro-Madagascan family.
About 18cms in length, this diurnal reptile feeds on insects which is
caught with its tongue. The tongue can be extended upto nearly the
length of the body.
Chameleons are famous for their ability to change their colour. Their
eyes can be moved independently of each other and can rotate and focus
separately to observe two different objects.
Near Bandipur National Park, southern India. Oct 2005.
Cheers!
sumit
