Another thought:

According to a colleague of mine, it is the whole word "ubuntu" that
is the problem, and only in the name of the project. So calling it
something that uses just a part of the name is acceptable.

E.g., say, "Lightbuntu"

With a description of "the lightweight remix of Ubuntu for
low-specification PCs".

Or "Litebuntu" if people insist. :-)
