Dear Friends,
I just read the last 4 posts I got today from this list. First of all
let me thank you for your efforts, making Ubuntu more lite so it can be
used even on outdated Hardware. I know a lot of peole who depend on this
possibility.
Introducing myself: I have contributed to the vum:BOX which was a lite
version of Redhat 9 based on a Slinky installed system (slinky has been
developed by The Rule Project). Due to its new businessmodel, we from
VUM have dropped Redhat and were searching for something else and we
found Ubuntu and so I tried to use our experiences from the vum:BOX on
Ubuntu. The result was the Ubuntu-Mini-RAM Howto.
May I suggest that the efforts of Ubuntu-light and RULE should be
combined? I see many synergies here!
The ubuntu Miniram project is great. I have looked at the rule Project before and was dissapointed in the usage of redhat. But I could see allot of room for collaboration. I do not know if combining the projects would be beneficial.
By the way has anyone else been able to access the rule project's site above? I have not been able to bring up a web page for it at all. The irony of this is that I can get to the download section and have downloaded the distro (as yet have not tried it). I have been holding back my reply for this reason.

It would be. F.e. the discussion which applications are usefull in the context of outdated hardware is exactly the same wether you use Fedora or Ubuntu. Many of the discussions I have seen on this list the last dayes, have been the same with same results on the Rule Project a year ago (OpenOffice vs. Abiword, iceWM, XFCE, Fluxbox, ...)
