Wisconsin's Miracle Mile Takes $208.6 Million Jackpot
The $208.6 million jackpot offered on August 5, 2006 was won by a
ticket sold at the Ma and Pa's Grocery Express in Fond du Lac,
Wisconsin. The prize has not yet been officially claimed, although
there are press stories of a group of about 100 workers at a cheese
factory (really, that is not just a Wisconsin joke).
Homeland Security Employee Wins $800,000 Power Play.
Charles Koonce of Northeast Washington, D.C. purchased his $800,000
winner at Kogod's Liquor, 441 New Jersey Avenue, N.W. Koonce says that
he was inspired to use the Power Play option after seeing New Hampshire
Senator Judd Gregg miss his chance to use the $1 option last October to
turn an $856,492 prize into $1,653,492.
Shenandoah, IA Man Claims $800,000 Power Play Prize!
Jim Irvin has claimed a Match 5 Power Play ticket - the second Match 5
ticket sold in the small town of Shenandoah, IA for a single drawing.
The other winning ticket was claimed by Teresa Sleep of Northboro, IA
who did not play the Power Play and claimed the prize of $200,000.
Irvin used a Quick Pick play to win his prize. he has played Powerball
only three times before this win.
Roxboro, NC Man Claims $800,000 Power Play Prize!
Willie Scott of Roxboro bought is $800,000 winning Power Play ticket at
the Handi Cupboard on Durham Road in Roxboro. Scott said that he has
played Powerball only three times before this win.
Scott said he immediately called his mother to ask her what the prize
was for matching five white balls and she didn't know.
"That's when I got my wife out of bed and we went back to the store
and found out I had won $800,000," he added. "I started jumping and
my wife started jumping."
He plans to pay off the mortgage on his home, buy he and his wife,
Brenda, new cars, take a vacation, and save.
Oklahoma $101.8 Million Winner Claims Prize After 45 Days
The Oklahoma Lottery announced on August 2, 2006, that the $101.8
million jackpot winner of the drawing on June 17, 2006 has claimed the
prize through a trust. The winning ticket was sold at Quick Trip, 4705
S. Elm in Broken Arrow, OK. The WJW Investment trust claimed the prize
through a trustee, Richard Barlow, and the trust's attorney, David
Walls of Oklahoma City. A statement issued by the trust said:
"The trust format was also used because the beneficiaries wish to
maintain their privacy, and they kindly and respectfully have requested
that all honor their desire for privacy."
The trust elected to take the cash amount, valued at $46.3 million
before taxes.
Elon, NC Man Claims $800,000 Power Play Prize!
An Elon, North Carolina man has picked up his $800,000 Powerball prize
from the drawing on July 26, 2006. Greg Gravitte won on a ticket
purchased for him by his mother Glenda. The ticket was purchased at 4
Brothers on South Main Street in Mt. Airy. Gravitte worked for the
chain store while growing up.
Mrs. Gravitte has four sons and she purchased tickets for each of them
because the jackpot was at $135 million. "It's the first time he
Power Played," she said. "He also let the computer pick (Quick
Pick) for him."
Two North Carolina tickets matched five numbers and included the Power
Play option to win $800,000 on that day.
Statesville, NC Player Wins $800,000 Power Play Prize!
A Statesville, North Carolina man has claimed his $800,000 Powerball
prize from the drawing on July 26, 2006. Donald Sigmon purchased his
winning ticket at the West Iredell Grocery on Old Mt. Road in
Statesville, a store where Sigmon normally stops in for gas and an
occasional lottery ticket.
On Wednesday when he stopped by the store, he planned to play a
scratch-off game. He had never played Powerball. "The clerk asked me
if I wanted to play Powerball and I said ok," Sigmon said. "Then
she suggested I Power Play and showed me how to do it."
After leaving the store, Sigmon and his wife, Danette, headed off on
vacation. He didn't check to see if he had picked winning numbers
until he returned home on Sunday. "I was on the phone talking to my
sister-in-law and she was reading me the winning numbers from the
newspaper," Mrs. Sigmon added. "Donald was standing there with the
ticket as I was repeating the numbers."
Sigmon said he was in a state of shock. "I didn't believe it," he
said. "I know I looked at that ticket at least 10 times." Sigmon,
who has three children, plans to use the money for their college
education and pay off the mortgage on his home. He said he chose
numbers that had special meaning to him
South Dakota Couple Claims $116.8 Million Powerball Jackpot!
The winners of the biggest jackpot ever won in South Dakota have
claimed their prize. Lan "Bill" Nguyen and his wife Tina claimed
the $116.8 million they won in the May 17th Powerball drawing. Bill
purchased the ticket while stopping for gas with his son Alexander on
their way fishing for crappie and bluegill at Hayes Lake . Bill picked
his own numbers for each play based on a pattern on the play slip
instead of any specific number. The next morning, he learned that the
winning ticket was sold in Pierre.
The Nguyens chose to receive their jackpot winnings as a one-time cash
prize of $51,584,755. The Lottery also paid the couple another $14
they had won on the same ticket. The couple said they plan to give back
financially to their communities as a way of saying thank you for the
support their family has received. They said several local charities
and organizations had helped them and they intend to help those
organizations.

Group of 13 Share $224.2 Million Jackpot!
A group of 13 Missouri state employees, who work for the Department of
Social Services Family Support Division/Child Support Enforcement in
Florissant, Missouri, have claimed the $224.2 million Powerball jackpot
from the April 12 drawing. The jackpot is the largest prize ever won in
the Missouri Lottery's 20-year history and the seventh largest
Powerball jackpot ever won since the game's beginning.
Eleven of the members put $5 into the pool and two members contributed
$2.50. The jackpot prize will be split 12 ways. All of the members plan
to take the cash amount, which works out to be approximately $8.5
million each before taxes for the 11 members who contributed $5 and
approximately $4.2 million before taxes for the two members who
contributed $2.50.
The winners report that new groups are formed for drawings depending on
who would like to play, and employees take turns buying the tickets.
Record Winning $365 Powerball Jackpot Claimed by 8 Co-Workers !
Eight workers from a ConAgra ham processing plant in Lincoln, Nebraska,
stepped forward to claim the record $365 million Powerball jackpot from
last Saturday night, February 18th. The seven men and one woman said
they and others often pooled their money together when the jackpots
reached $40 million or so. The winning numbers were 15, 17, 43, 44 and

Kentucky Couple Buys Powerball Ticket For Their Anniversary!
Saturday evening was set to be a special night for Dwight Walton of
Irvine and his wife Jeanie. It was their 12th wedding anniversary and
over dinner the couple talked about the record $365 million Powerball
jackpot up for grabs that night. As fate would have it, they bought a
couple of Powerball quick pick tickets and called it an evening. That
next morning, Dwight had no idea that he was driving his truck with a
lottery ticket worth $667,142 stuck in the visor.
Dwight was philosophical about being one number away from a part of the
$365 million jackpot. "We were so wrapped up in what we'd won, it
didn't even dawn on us until we were driving to Louisville how close
we'd come. While the big one would have been nice, I feel pretty good
with where we are now."
