Croxton Records, established in 1999 by beloved Australian songwriter Mick Thomas and business partner Nick Corr, provides a home for Mick’s solo efforts plus releasing a select group of criminally underrated Australian songwriters.
Croxton’s first release was a compilation from Austin legends The Gourds and, to date, the label has released some 35 albums including acclaimed records from The Dunaways, James Stewart, Nick Barker, The Prayerbabies, The Drowners, Git, The Re-Mains, Marcel Borrack, Dan Warner, Sarah Carroll, Young Modern, the Underminers and Mick Thomas and The Sure Thing plus Mick’s live recordings, theatre, film and online projects like The Tank and Dust On My Shoes.
Croxton Records has developed a distinctive label aesthetic with its roots in the narrative traditions of folk and country music, plus a healthy dose of modern pop smarts thrown in. This strongly melodic personal storytelling is the common road travelled by all of Croxton’s artists - from the dusty, hell-for-leather outback inhabited by The Re-Mains to Sarah Carroll’s classic country bars and bedrooms, the inner city back alleys of Marcel Borrack’s folk to the seminal 70’s garage power pop of Young Modern. No matter the style, the songs contain candid, poignant and often political stories told by the cream of Australian songwriting talent.
