Subject: Is there regular meetups?
Hi,

Hello you all. I am a new member.

"Bio
I am an experienced software developer, and worked in research lab and
have postgrad degs in artificial intelligence. I am searching for
collaborative opportunities on, 1)how to use IT to help society, or 2)
data mining/machine learning in general. "

Is there a regular meetup for Silicon Beach Australia? If so, could
someone point me to more info please? (sorry, if this info is online,
but I can't seem to find it )

Hello Mak,

There is a Silicon Beach drink every Friday evening 6 pm at Grace Hotel.

It's quite an ad-hoc process. I'm not sure if there will always be people
though for every week.

Cheers,
Hendro

Thanks, Hendro.

I will sure to drop by sometime at Grace Hotel.

Is Grace Hotel big? Which part of Grace Hotel do you guys meet in?
And, how do I know which group is for Silicon Beach? I just ask
the bartender?

Hi Anthony

Have a look at the events at startupaustralia http://www.startup-australia.org/events
It's in the mezzanine bar at the Grace hotel and you have to guess
which group are tech entrepreneurs :)

And there's also a good tech entrepreneur meetup every 2nd Thursday
morning in Sydney CBD http://www.meetup.com/open-coffee-sydney

Might see you there

Hi Anthony,

This is my first post on this forum as well. Since i am building a
application for a semantic advertising startup. I will be very much
interested meeting other folks who is interested in collective
intelligence/machine learning/data mining as well.

I have yet to attend silicon beach meetup, would be great to chat with you
in the next meetup.

nationmaster.com. its been sleeping for a while but a bit of agitating might
get it going.

Seems like there will be Melbourne drinks in this message. But it says
they are postponed at melbourne.siliconbeach.australia.org. What is
going on? I need a drink!

Hi Ben,

There are a couple of other events where a lot of Melb SB people
attend -- e.g. thehive.org.au. I think they've attempted to revive
Melb drinks a couple of times, but nothing as of yet.

Cheers, Jon

Melbourne fizzled out because of inconsistency. Fortnightly was an
experiment and it proved it doesn;t work.

All it takes is three people, committing to attending every week for the
first 3-6 months - and you watch what will happen. People aren't going to
the Melbourne drinks because they are waiting on someone else to organise.

Pieter who started it has been overwhelmed of late -but this is a community
thing, it's up to all of us to see it going.

So put your hand up, get a buddy to keep you company, and be prepared that
no one will come for a month. But after that month, you'll see what we've
achieved in Sydney which is sometimes 40 people just rocking up without even
asking or thinking because they know it's there.

Thanks Pat - The Melb Jelly slipped my mind. I'll be there this Friday.

Pieter's away at the moment, but some of us have talked to him about
reviving it - There are some others that I think would be keen (the
RMIT crowd, Adioso, Rentoid, etc).

If anyone else is interested, drop me a line.

Cheers, Jon

For the Sydney SB drinks it helps that the bar is on the same block as
us and several other companies such as Anchor.... and it has a happy
hour. So then at least the stingy lazy alcoholics like me have a good
chance of turning up :)

Your app sounds very interesting Taylor. Hope to bump into you
in silicon beach meet up someday. (I might go this weekend)
I have only been to OpenOffee meetup so far, not Silicon Beach one
yet.

I always love to meet other people working or have interests in the
field of AI/machine learning/data mining.

You may already know, but there is a data miner meetup on 17 Nov at
Google Sydney:
  http://www.meetup.com/datarati/calendar/11637837/

Look forward to meet you in person, Taylor.

Cheerio,
Anthony
