Subject: company background checking

Hi,
What are the public resources available to look at the background and 'character' of a potential partner company?
I'm not really sure what I'm asking for here but I'd like to see things like previous litigation proceedings...current legal proceedings against the company and/or its directors. Does anyone know of any other types of public information I could look at that perhaps isn't in the google index?

Regards,
Mark Burch

Hi Mark

ASIC Search to establish the company directors, then Veda Advantage
(previously called CRAA) search of the directors credit history.

Note you will probably need a signed privacy disclosure and permission from
each director for the Veda search.

http://www.vedaadvantage.com/business/au_acquire.dot

This will give you the personal and business credit applications and status
of the directors and if they have had any judgments or defaults against
them.

If you are tying to do background checks without informing them then
possibly you could also talk to Dunn and Bradstreet who may or may not have
information on them or could collect information.

Also if you have their permission you could get Police checks done which
would advise there have been any convictions and if there are any pending
charges across the country.

Mike

ASIC may be a good place to start.

We have considered Dun & Bradstreet Company Credit check in the past but
never completed the process.

I would be curious to your feedback if you do go through with this.

There's been a lot of new people posting on this and the international currency threads over the past week or so - if you're new to Silicon Beach, don't be shy: introduce yourself! http://groups.google.com/group/silicon-beach-australia/browse_thread/...

Hi Mark

You can perform free electronic searches through the State & Federal
Court Registries to check for current & past litigation - this is a
really handy tool and is a handy tool for transactional due diligence.
Feel free to email me off list or give me a call - happy to run
through the details with you and give you a hand to get it done... I
did plenty during my time as a lawyer.

Regards

Kurt
