There is a mentoring group just started last year that offers
mentoring and support for young deaf people between the ages of 12 and
18, who are hearing impaired and use speech, not sign language, as
their main mode of communication.
If you know of anyone that might be interested in:
(a) being a mentor
(b) getting mentoring
perhaps you could pass on this website link below to your contacts?

We have definitely thought about extending it to people over 18, but
currently we only have enough funding to run the workshops for the
ages of 12-18.
However, the director was thinking about the possibility of setting up
an online forum, much like this one; or e-mentoring where mentors from
around Australia would log in, and email their mentees, and hold
online discussions etc.
If you are interested, you should send an email to Hear For You:

SHHH is trying to set up a "buddy system" and the SHHH membership is
primarily consists of those over 21.
SHHH is always looking for new members to help other members.
As you can see we have this google group to assist those who prefer
this online communication.
If you can suggest other ways to be 'mentored' or 'mentee' please let
me know.
What about by phone if people can hear on the phone that is? I can but are interstate. Or actually in person like having a coffee once a month or more or something like that as well as using this internet forum

Phone, email, coffee and other ideas will be considered.Anything to
get those who have a hearing impairment etc together to discuss
issues.
Just contact Pauline at the SHHH Office to inform that you are
interested in the Mentor/ Mentoree program.
SHHH has members all over Australia, so i am sure there may be one in
your city or close by. The more people we get involved the better.
SHHH is predominatly made up of people over 18 and of those who who
believe in self help and helping others hence volunteers.
Keep the ideas flowing. Pass this group around to those who might be
interested.
