Does anyone use the telstra big button phone that works with hearing aids?? I find its really good and the volume control is useful but depending on who is on the other end it can be too loud or not loud enough. I use the volume control both on the phone and the hearing aid but sometimes it still doesn't help one way or another. I know there are other options like TTY and the relay service but I would rather not go down that path until I have no other choice.
Has anyone had a similar experience?
Erin

Have you thought about tone control to give clearer speech? Telstra are
looking for a couple of people to trial the big button phone with tone
control (at Deafness Forum's urging) so if anyone is interested in
participating in trial, please let me know nicole.lawder @
deafnessforum.org.au (remove spaces before sending) I believe Telstra would
send out a trial phone, then you would have to complete a questionnaire (and
send the phone back!)

Please consider participating, because several suggestions from overseas are
that tone control can help and we are trying to get this introduced here.

Subject: RE: {SHHH Support Group} telephone

Hi Erin,

I'm using the Oricom TP1100 telephone that I purchased recently.  It's good
in that it has the large buttons, booster button (for extra volume) and you
can use it with or without your T-switch.

It also has additional volume control on the side of the phone.

I've tried various phones, in the past, that claim to be compatible with
hearing aids but haven't found them to be very successful.

The Oricom, which I purchased through my audiologist, has got to be the best
phone I've tried so far.

It also has a loud ringer volume, so that if I'm away from the phone, I can
still hear it ring and it flashes.

However, one slight problem that I'm still experimenting with is the
T-switch setting when used with the phone I get a  hissing and buzzing sound
that has been confirmed by my audiologist as magnetic interference.  This is
caused mainly by fluorescent lights in most offices.

My audiologist has recently made some adjustments on my hearing aids with
the T-switch to hopefully lessen this interference, however he did mention
that by changing this setting the volume of the call could go down with it.

Although I may be able to get around that using the inbuilt volume control
and booster button that comes with the phone.

I paid $129 but is worth every penny for the comfort of being able to hear
on the phone.

Scrunch.

Hi Scrunch,

That phone is my favourite, because it also has tone control on the side. It
is the tone control that adds clarity when set correctly.

The interference you are getting is actually from the current flowing
through the electrical cabling to various devices. This is not a problem in
most places.

I forgot to mention, to reduce the interference problem turn the volume down
a bit on your hearing aid, and up on the phone. Also experiment with the
tone control on the side of the phone.
