Subject: tooth abcess and anitbiotics
Had a tooth ascess that was drained two days ago.  Tooth hurt and
could feel a tender region up in the entrance to my nostal.  It felt
like there may have been an amorphous lump there, but it wasn't like a
hard pea or anything like that -- it was hard to tell.

Yesturday, one day later, I had a bit of head ache off an on, felt
like a sinus headache, and epsidoes of general mailase.

Today feeling pretty fine.  Definately no tooth pain of any kind.
Still have a little bit of a sensitive area in nostral, but I have to
apply much more pressure than before to get a reaction, and even then
it's not like before.  Comparing the too sides it appears that there
is more tissue in right, the infected side, than left, but hard to
tell if it's normal anatomy.

I am extremely leary of anitbiotics due to another condition, though I
guess with an infection it's choosing between evils.  If it apears to
be on the wane, I'm feeling better, still a senative area but
assuaging, is it necessary for me to take the anitbiotics?  The
dentist left it up to me, though part of that might had to do with my
request to forgo them.

What you don't say is what caused the abscess.  I'm guessing that since
the tenderness was next to your nostril that this is a pulpal abscess,
possibly of an upper canine.  If this is the case the tooth will need a
root canal treatment and suitable restoration or extraction.  If the
abscess is in the gum (periodontal) it may resolve on its own, but in
the presence of periodontal disease it is likely to recur.
Your dentist is in a much better position to advise you about this.

Steve

Yea, it was due to a hole in the tooth that ate through to the root.
Will be going in for a root cannal when I get back from my vacation
which I am departing on tomorrow, hence me figuring out whether or not
I need to take antibiotics.  Since I posted, i am having some minor
discomfot in sinuses and face.

Well, hope you enjoy your vacation. Hope you had the
antibiotic Rx filled (and some pain pills). Keep them in the
bottle from the pharmacy, so you're not accused of being a
drug runner or pusher.
