This annual competition is in memory of Max and Pat Dietrich, who were members of Rostrum and the Penguin Club respectively.

Three Rostrum speakers and three Penguin speakers compete, each giving a 10 minute prepared speech on a topic from an annually set list. There are three adjudicators, one each from Rostrum and Penguin, and a third from another speaking club as selected by the host organisation.

Nominations for selection open in October, with the competition being held in November.
