Sigma 70-300mm Sony/Minolta mount lens - a warning

I post this as a warning for anyone researching this lens before purchase. I have a Sony a200 and recently bought a Sigma 70-300mm zoom. The reviews say it makes great pictures and I agree, the optical performance is great, especially for a cheap-ish lens. What the reviews don't tell you is that this lens was designed before Sony started fitting more powerful focus... more »

Handy use for Hasselblad viewfinder

This idea has proved so useful, I want to share it. I found a used waist-level Hasselblad viewfinder at a flea market, and I have been using it with my digital camera, my Palm organizer and my cell phone. It doesn't attach, but when I hold it against the screen, I get shade and magnification. When it's not in use, it folds flat and goes in my pocket.... more »

Getting rid of haze?

I do a lot of photography on the water. A common problem (especially in the summer) is haze and humidity leading to muted colors. Is there anything (short of shooting only on clear days) to improve the situation? I usually have a UV filter on. I've tried a circular polarizer, which helps a little, but not much.
