depth of field with different lenses
|
| |
Really rough real world test to prove to myself recent discussions in the SI thread digression about depth of field at same aperture but different focal lengths. No, I didn't use a tripod. No, the focus point is not exactly the same. But it's near enough to express what we're talking about. This shot was taken at f/2.8 with a 150mm lens:... more »

New Mandate: 46.8 Degrees; due Januray 17th, 2010
|
| |
OK, here's the new mandate for the Shoot In, due January 17th, 2010. Let's simplify things this month. Drag out those 50mm primes and shoot a pic using nothing but that, or whatever lens you have that provides the equivilant angle of view of, yes, 46.8 degrees. Use a zoom if you like, but lock it at "50." Fire at will...... more »

Question about Nikon Battery charger MH-30 (for Nikon F5)
|
| |
I could not find the MH-30 user manual anywhere. There is a "refresh" button in this charger. What is it for? A manual for a different charger (MH-16) indicated that you want to push this button for discharging, Why do you need to discharge the battery? How does the charging for the battery pack (MN-30) work? When the... more »

Bad day in Africa!
|
| |
Well I had a bad day in Cape Town, South Africa today. It started with a flat tire, and ended with my D300 + MB-D10, 18-200 VRII, Black Rapid strap, Promote GPS, 2 x 8GB, and one 16GB CF cards being stolen. I have until December 21 on this trip. At least I still have my G11 to fall back on.

I see what Alan is after here and it sorta works but I think would have worked better with more of a side... more »

SI sports comments by Calvin Sambrook

A special thank you to Bowser for posting this lot after I'd gone to bed. With that many good shots there'd have been no way I could have resisted commenting straight away if I'd been up. Games_Alan_Browne_2.jpg: I want to like this, I really do, and I can see what was being attempted but it just doesn't quite do it for me. I think... more »

Older Nikon lenses used with Canon Digital, like D10, D20
|
| |
I have some really nice Nikon lenses and now shoot mostly digital with a D50 or else film in my FE-2, FA, or F100 and have pictures put directly on a CD. Someone writes that the above digital Canon cameras actually do a better job compatibility-wise than a digital Nikon in accepting these lenses (with a mounting adapter, of course)while preserving much of... more »
