This may be related to the other 'black silt' thread on this forum,
maybe not. It is not a question about the efficacy of adding rapid
selenium to film fixer for archival purposes, it's a question about
why the black silt is appearing.
In the past, I've added Kodak rapid selenium to my fixer with no

I plan to experiment with cleaning up print highlights this weekend
via ferricyanide solution & refixing, so I'm googling around for
whatever tips I can find. A thread on APUG suggests that this won't
work on RC prints, yet another assures that it will.
Any comments on this dilemma?

 Hello,
broke the red plastic, cam-shaped red slide for my rolleimatic enlarger.
Can't remember what it is called but it allows me to focus without
exposing my image. I anticipate that finding a replacement will be
extremely difficult so I would like to cut out a new one.
Question: is the red slide just lexan? acrylic? What would be suitable

 Hello,
I have a question here that has even stumped the tech people at Kodak.
What we have (we are a small high school darkroom) is a cloudy black
silt in the fixer that leaves sooty stains on the prints. I am using
the recommended dilution for all chemicals. The developer is Dektol,
and we're using Kodak indicator stop. I have tried three different

September 1, 2009, from Lloyd Erlick,
Rec.Photo.Darkroom has been pretty slow most
of the summer. So I'm going to use it to
celebrate my Geezerhood (turned sixty this
summer ...) by recounting the thrilling
installation of my darkroom in my latest new
home.
Unlike any darkroom I've ever had in the
past, this one has windows. Hi:
What wavelengths of light specifically affect the type of film used in
the first movie containing an variable-density optical audio track? I
am specifically interested in the chemical composition of the optical
audio track.
From what I know, most of the more modern films are unaffected by red
light.

Is this a reasonable substitution? If so, how would the two compare by
weight? (The formulary is out of KI, whereas I have plenty of KBr.)

I am already skeptical. Why? Because of the 5 minutes a day thing.....I am
looking for some real work. I don't believe anyone is going to put money in
the hand of anyone who is only working for, "5 minutes a day".....I need a
job where I work for 8 hours a day, and get a decent 8 hours pay for that

I just bought a self-inking stamp so as to put some id & copyright info
on my prints (rc for now). The ink can still be wiped off with my finger
over a day later. What kind of ink should I be using & who supplies such?
Thanks.

Thanks for all your advice! I installed a vent fan and made a filter box to
hold a 20" x 20" high-efficiency filter. Thanks for the heads up. I was not aware that Harman acquired Kentmere.
Too bad about that Art line of papers - that was the paper recommended for
bromoil. And Harman also owns Ilford. hmmm...I see some kind of
consolidation in papers down the road.

Regarding spam, I posted earlier that complaining to Google is futile in
trying to shut down spammers, since there is a threshold number of
complaints that must be submitted before Google will take such action.
I'm proposing that we might start a project here to see if we can raise
enough support within this group to submit enough complaints to see an
