Now, now Chuck. Remember, he is the president of ALL the people, you included.
I couldn't believe my eyes and ears either when he so clearly demonstrated his priorities.

With muslims in our Military, what if a patrol is sent out and your son is in the patrol. And right beside him is a muslim, who might shoot him in the back. "I got your back" is a dangerous situtation today...

I'd rather have a committed American soldier, regardless of race, color, religion, sexual orientation, education level, sex, etc. next to me than a nutcase, coward, or sociopath - regardless of his/her race, color, religion, sexual orientation, education level, sex, etc.
And believe me, there are proportionally more nutcases, cowards, and sociopaths amongst Harley riders than amongst Muslims. -- CHA in FL http://sky.prohosting.com/chainfl/index.htm

During the Bush 2 administration, on numerous occasions, the dems called him every vile name in the vocabulary of Hunter because he didn't respond immediately to some event. Katrina and other disasters were ALL BUSH'S FAULT.
But yesterday, 0 finally made an appearance to comment on the Terrorist attack at Ft. Hood. He first had to offer praises to the brave native Americans who had attended the conference. And when he did remember to comment, it took him 1:58 to get around to mentioning the tragedy. He hasn't even bothered to go to Ft. Hood to give a show of support. His only positive act is to ORDER THE FLAGS FLOWN AT HALF MAST.
This 'boy' is an embarrassment to the entire country: totally unqualified for the job.. How can you libs sit back and not comment? Do you approve of his total dissing of our armed forces?

There is something around 100 muslim soldiers assigned to Fort Hood. At any given time between 1/3 and 1/2 of them are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. From what I hear from soldiers I sometime play golf with they are trusted battle buddies within their squads and platoons.

pretty sad, ft hood houses 75,000 army troops, about 25,000 are in iraq jerking off, so even with the 50,000 troops on site it took a civilian woman to come in and save the 50,000 troops from the big bad muslim ,,,, what a shame,,,,, usarmy might never live this down --wait til the muslims in mid east hear about this, and goodbye to bambi as world leader, after all he commander in chief includes usarmy which did cowardly stuff against one muslim fatass who is in same usarmy, what a fiasco -- Skype <fxdlrider2>
Now who's talking out of their paper asshole? Fort Hood has never seen 75,000 military population, the actual assigned population floats somewhere around 54,000. And there aren't 25,000 troops from Hood in Iraq, more like 16,000 from the 1st Cav and its support units. The actual base population yesterday was probably close to 31,000. And despite your Rambo fantasies they don't all run around with loaded weapons, or any weapons for that matter. Their first stop when the get off an airplane returning from Iraq is the unit armory where they check in their weapons, not to see them again until it's range time. Only then do they get to claim their duffle and unite with their families.
So far as the civilian woman, she was a cop and according to reports a tough cop. She and her partner were the first officers respondng to the call, arriving about 3 minutes after the first shots were fired. The shooter was put down by a duly sworn police officer no matter the internal or external plumbing. She's also the mother of a 3 year old daughter and married to an Army NCO.
No matter how you want to bitch, the command structure, president down, did almost everything right. They isolated the scene, shot the gunman, treated the wounded and got them to professional help in a helluva hurry, the Commander in Chief talked with the senior officer on the ground, Genaral Cone, promised him all the help he needed from anywhere then stayed the hell out of the way. The absolute last thing Fort Hood needed yesterday was to get the word that Air Force 1 would be on the ground at Robert Gray Army Airfield in two hours.
While date and arrangements aren't finalized yet a fort wide memorial service for the dead will most likely be held next week. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Air Force 1 fall out of the sky here that day.

I agree with almost all of what you said. But..... there were signs that the "command structure" ignored. (not that I find that unusual) The shooter had been written up for engaging in Islamic proselytization when counseling the troops. He had been known to criticize the war in Iraq. Why wasn't he subjected to a psychological examination? What sort of "judgment" was used when they decided to send him to Iraq? I think the "command structure" f..ked up. (but, as a veteran of Korea, I don't find that unusual) Fort Bliss Commander, Major General Bromberg, said on TV this evening that members are encouraged to report any suspicious or unusual conduct. Why? To be ignored?

I rarely see anyone wearing outlaw biker gang colors any more. OTOH the Harelys around here spend far more time parked outside of some sleazy bar than they spend on the road.

Now this is a profound statement. The hells angels are a minority, not a majority. You ought to hang out at a Harley Dealers for about an hour, you might learn something. You haven't the slightest idea what the breakdown is of Harley owners, age? sex? income? occupation? You have to spend at least $20,000.00 for a new Harley, and if you order a custom made bike think $100,000.00 You've been watching too many fictional movies.

I think O'Reilly nailed it just a few minutes ago. No commander and not even the FBI wanted to go after a Muslim Arab.
Political Correctness you know. He was in a protected class and that is why those people are dead and wounded today.
Because the people whose job it is to take the responsibility and make a decision have #12 BBs for balls. Their career takes precedence over doing the right thing. LZ

No, I've spent most of my life working in law enforcement.
Max, when I posted that the command structure did exactly the right thngs I was referring only to the shootings and their aftermath. I agree with you that mistakes were made prior to that.
He had hired a lawyer to try to get out of the Army sometime around 2002 or 2003. The problem was that he had gotten his medical education courtesy of DOD and that carries with it a significant service obligation. Graduating, getting licensed in one or more states then trying to claim conscientious objector or other status in an attempt to duck the service responsibility is a fairly common dodge which rarely works.
He was rebuked for prosthlesizing the muslim religion but in actuallity that isn't all that unusual in the military. Had he done the same thing for <pick your choice> mainstream religion most likely little note would have been taken of it. I know I was offered a smorgasbord of religions while I was on active duty.
Serious attention should have been paid when he started posting some really off the wall stuff on blogs. But, where do you draw the First Amendment line? Suppose it was just another clever shrink attempt to dodge his service obligation.
I don't have a clue as to what his motivation was. Anger at being shipped to Afghanistan at the end of the month? Anger that his car was keyed? Anger at being called "a camel driver" although I have a real problem envisioning that ever happening. No enlisted would dare ever call an officer that (to his face) and I just can't see his fellow doctors doing it. Civilians, maybe. Military, not likely. Absolute faith in the insanity of martyrdom? He wasn't married so maybe he was really looking forward to deflowering a raft of virgins. That's as good a reason as any.

I don't know Max, hindsight is always 20-20. With a base population as large as it is, I'll bet there are other candidates that would fall in the same suspicous behaviour category. The biggest problem is working with the Muslim religion and treating them equally with the rest of the religions. Walk on eggshells. Just like other lone assassins he had deep-seated hatreds that could never be predicted in advance.
