Whoops!
Great Yarmouth to Pembroke is approximately 300 miles.

Lucky you!
As you probably know, large sedans are disappearing in the US. I"ve been looking around. I can't find any new large sedans. What manufacturers and advertisers call new large sedans I would call a compact.

Seems like it..was apparently left to somebody in a will. The window's winding system has to be fixed so the garage I've bought it off is lending me a Honda Civic for the next day or so...it also needs to be MOTed..and taxed which the garage has said they will do.
> How much in U.S. dollars?
Fuck I dunno..about 2 and half grand I suppose....maybe a bit less.
Well the one that dies was a ford..a fiesta...and that is currently very dead indeed. Lasted me three years and did 60,000 miles in it..so that's OK i suppose. I hadn't serviced it for two years so I was expecting a death to occur..I never really loved my Fiesta..not like the Minis I used to have.

There was an episode of Top Gear in which Jeremy Clarkson drove a Bently (I think) from Glasgow to London on one tank of petrol...it was part of the TV prog. Can't remember what car it was...might have been a BMW or a Merc come to think of it.

That was fast. It takes me longer to buy a computer. ;-)
Did you not keep it up because you secretly wanted it to die because you disliked it, or because it was more cost-effective?
I had good luck the last time. I did the research on the net, narrowed it down, and ended up getting internet pricing and buying the first car I looked at. Love it. But that didn't stop me from driving all around three cities looking at other colors and makes just to make sure.
(Footnote for Americans/Californians: Even if you pay cash, as I did, the dealership still used the Patriot Act to force me to fill out a credit check or they wouldn't sell me the car. The guy confided to me in depth that they don't do this because they think the buyer is a terrorist, they do this because more local law enforcement wants to check if you're a drug dealer. This is supposed to be unethical use of the Patriot Act. Nevertheless. If you want the car, you have to get checked.)

Two or three years ago.
I'm going by what the guy who sold me the car said when I at first demurred, then questioned why I had to fill out a quite extensive credit/loan application if I were paying cash. (Not "Cash" in the sense of greasy bundles of paper money, but paying in full at time of purchase.) The dealership was a member of a large unified network of dealers and had layers and layers of corporate red tape and paperwork. They don't get a lot of cash buyers, he said. I guess you were a freak if you paid cash in the pre-crash credit economy.
When I recounted this elsewhere, I was told that it would be unethical to use the P.A. that way.

I was just wondering if maybe things have changed a bit with the Bush admin gone. But if local law enforcement is behind it, maybe not.

It'd be interesting to ask.
I suppose my memory isn't clear enough to be absolutely certain it was solely local instead of federal, or a combination of the two. They might overlap. (If this were a court of law instead of usenet, or someone had a gun to my grandmother's head, etc.)
I posted a few months back that local/federal combos were busting medical marijuana dispensaries again after Obama's AG specifically said they would stop early in 2009. However, the Obama admin recently made it even more clear that this was not considered a productive use of resources, so it'll be interesting to see if that changes anything from here on out.

You didn't read that a couple of weeks ago? Obama actually signed an executive order telling U.S. attorneys to stop busting legitimate medical marijuana suppliers. They've stopped or they'll be replaced.
*Pharmacies" have popped up on every corner in San Diego, and there is a lot of concern about kids getting it. -- mad

Yes, that's what I was referring to when I said the admin made it 'even more clear', but no, I didn't register that it was an executive order. I remember the coverage at the time, but only scanned it.
The Organica Collective, a popular L.A. dispensary, was raided with a combo of feds/local after the Obama admin's initial official position statement in January or February. I have a 'wait and see' attitude - despite the recent executive order - because of how it went the first time around.
A friend has a mm rec and uses the Organica Collective, so I am somewhat familiar with the drama. The dispensaries are all over L.A. and have been for years - even during Bush.

Orange County was okay, too, but San Diego county was the pits. Nothing was open. The U.S. attorney and local LE raided and closed them all.
As I said, since Obama's order, pharmacies on every street corner, and I watch the medical marijauna concern shoot themselves in the foot.
There are always young kids (teenagers) in charge of the stores; as a matter of fact, even in the "clinics" (except for maybe the MD). Glassy-eyed, too.
The clinics were giving letters to teenagers who claimed they had severe pain or other malady. That's why San Diego clamped down, I think. -- mad

Well, it is what it is - even when you have older people running the show.
The above goes to an Organica promo clip I came across. It starts off pretty well, but as it goes on...lol. There they are earnestly going on in CA stoner accents about people who need to get their medicine while the camera pans over containers entitled "Trainwreck" and baked goods called "Space Cakes."
It's like getting your Rx's filled through the local Starbuck's Medical Caffeine Dispensary.

10% discount on over 1/2 ounce.
Some of it is killer weed. The Ak-47 and Green Crack were excellent. The others are usually at least good.
Better than pills (so many bad side effects). I use it for depression and insomnia, but it's so damn expensive.
I heard today that within five years, marijuana will be legalized in California aside from medical use. -- mad

Have a few beers and then fire one up.

Letter from a MD - cost: $99.00 a year, and then you have to be processed by a "pharmacy" that calls the clinic and verifies. Yes, you get a club card.
I only belong to one. I ought to shop around, but it's time consuming and stressful driving around in SOCAL.
Mexico decriminalized possession of less than 5 grams, but they'll still confiscate it and give you a lecture on seeking treatment.
It smells very strongly (as you know) so I hide the bag down my pants in my crotch - practically the last place the Mexican cops will look.
I still get wiffs of the odor. I've taken to wrapping it several times and wiping the bags with alcohol, which seems to work.

I usually drink Negra Modelo. One fine brew.

I don't hang about. The KA isn't ready yet so am driving around in a Honda Civic the garage has lent me whilst the KA gets MOTed and Taxed (and has the windy window fixed!). Honda Civic Estate..bloody massive compared to what I'm used to. 1.6 litre as well..thirsty.
> Did you not keep it up because you secretly wanted it to die because > you disliked it, or because it was more cost-effective?
To expensive to get it fixed. Would need a new engine. I kind of didn't love the Fiesta anyway. I didn't give it a name. Did me 70,000 miles in 3 years so it had had it's day. Bless it.

Wanted something small and economical. KA's are a bit cool..though they're a bit prostitutey. Like I need to have one of those tattos across the top of my arse like the ones that porn stars have.
