Many over the years. My current band, Rubix Kube, it's kind of funny, they have sworn off playing Freeport, our two singers, because a string of bad stuff seems to have happened to them or to us there every time we played there (they both live in NYC). Once we got stiffed, another time the one singer overslept which caused them both to be hours and hours late for the gig (with the rest of us in the meantime scrambling to come up with sings that we could sing despite not really being singers, lol), I think he got a flat tire on the way home later that same night; another time our male lead's car got broken into during the gig; and to top it off our girl singer fell through a hole in the wooden stage at Hudson McCoys and her ankle was in a cast for months. Eerie when you think about it I guess! Well, we've since moved onto a much better paying grade of gigs that we do anyway, but myself I always love playing there, or anywhere on the water, in the summer, and I fill in with other friends' bands there whenever I get the chance.
Thanks, always enjoy having the chance to talk about myself!

I grew up in New England (born in Lowell, MA), moved to the DC suburbs (Maryland) after college, and I've lived here ever since (except for an odd year-and-a-half).
I miss New England very much, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm stuck in DC until I can afford to move my four kids and grandchild back up north with me.

Long Island is the longest island in the US (I think)
Your comment about beautiful Long Island reminded me of a story. Once I was riding the NYC subway from one of the outer boros isnto Manhattan. The train conductor who was announcing the stops declared as we approached Manhattan, "Next stop such and such on the beautiful island of Manhattan." Made me chuckle.

I enjoyed Boston and Cape Cod when I have visited (very infrequently) in the warmer weather, but I absolutgely do not like cold weather. The southwest has spoiled me.
I think this is one of the healthiest climates in the world. I live where the Great Sonoran Desert meets the Pacific Ocean. Within a few miles where I live on the beach, the altitude is 1,000 feet and climbing.
I love the desert - especially the high desert.
One of those quirks of life - In the early 1950s I used to go to the Saturday morning "pictures" at the cinema in Lancashire where I was born, and I would dream about living in the areas pictured in the Westerns.
Many of those early Westerns were filmed in the high desert with its gorgeous topography of rock formations, mesas and canyons.

I've had a thing for Joshua Tree since I went camping there in the 4th grade. One Christmas, I rented a house for a week right on the border of Joshua Tree - I could walk into the park with my morning coffee. I was in my 20s, single and invited my bf and family up for the actual holiday, but for a few days before they arrived I was there alone.
By myself it was this magical fairyland, so happy, but when they came up it suddenly transformed into a dirty pile of rocks. They did NOT get the desert, you see, and their absolute certainty that this was crap did a very good job stepping on my buzz.

Ah, give me seasons, give me snow!
I guess it's a matter of what we're used to. I've been to New Mexico (Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and surrounding areas) several times, and it certainly has a beauty of its own, but to live there all the time, I'd consider it far too drab.
I do like the change of seasons; I actually prefer New England in that respect. Here in the DC area, the winter is mainly cold rain freezing on roads with an occasional snow that no one knows how to drive in. If it's going to be that cold, I prefer snow (and properly plowed roads).
When I was younger, I could tolerate cold much easier than heat. I now tolerate neither.

I go to San Diego about once a month. If there is a touch of rain (very rare) there are a billion fender-benders. Nobody knows how to drive in the rain, and the highways get a lot of oil drippings which don't get regularly washed away. It becomes like ice!
Well, okay. Maybe not quite a billion.
I lived in Pennsylvania most of my life and never minded the cold until I became acclimated to the hot, dry heat of the Southwest. -- mad

I've spent some time in Washington, DC. For me, I was greatful for the fact that it seldom snowed and that the winters were milder compared to NY.
The hot, humid summers in the Washington, DC area are hard for me to tolerate.
If I had to live in Washington DC or the American southwest for a long time, the one thing I would probably miss terribly would be the ocean and other vast bodies of water. People (including myself) think of NYC as a "concrete jungle." When one is surrounded by 8 million people, tall buildings, airports, and other man made bohemeths, it is easy to forget that NYC is blessed with the Atlantic Ocean, two large rivers, and many bays, estuaries, lakes/ponds, etc. NYC is made up of several islands, after all.

No, that's north and west of me, alot west, perhaps triple the westness from Baltimore. I am a little south of I-70 at the exit about 20 miles west of the Baltimore Beltway, and well east of I-270 that takes you to DC. About 10 miles north of Olney in Woodbine.

Me too. It's what we Silver Spring denizens refer to as "the sticks". :-)

Is it wise for everyone to be telling of their whereabouts? I suppose so. We have plenty of unmarked vehicles in our area, constantly checking to see if everything is okay. But I still question the point of it.

Met a gal on the beach at Ocean City Md. from Silver Springs in the mid-1960s. Still remember her name. Donna Whitaker. Her father was an FBI agent.
Sitting on the beach with her after dark with two buddies who had come down with me and my parents. A guy came out onto his third floor balcony and started peeing over the side.
She looked and asked, "Hey, is that guy taking a squiz?"
Local lingo? We had never heard the term before, so, of course, it sounded very funny. -- mad

I was born in Cumberland, MD, which must be way, way out in the sticks.
