You caitiff! How dare you defend yourself
|
| |
so I'm playing a knight. I was confronted by a deadly dwarf zombie. I applied my lance a couple of times and then it moved in too close. So I switched to Excalibur and when I attacked it this time I was told "You caitiff!" What happened here and what am I doing wrong?

YAAD/Death ray
|
| |
Well... Leprechaun with a wand of death. Single shot. At 20K turns, while playing really carefully for my second attempt on UnNethack (first one was a YASD I'm not really proud about). I went down till medusa, done sokoban, mines and town (this branch is... strange). No source of reflection or anything else that would prevent it.... more »

Pet disintegrator ascension [UNNH]
|
| |
After all the whining I did about disintegrators, I decided to get one on my side. Its now in the pantheon of best pets ever, and no doubt causing quite a stir in the demigod bar. I rolled some gnome wizards on un.nethack.nu with the goal of polytrap dancing, so a magic whistle was paramount. Lots of shops, good... more »

patch messing up the message window
|
| |
Hi, I've been patching nethack under Windows. I've succesfully installed 4 of them, but 2 others (itemcat and trapsontop) give me some trouble. The patch applies succesfully and compilation works fine. But when I start nethackw.exe, the message window is blank, and every single message pops up a message box. Also, with itemcat, activating a... more »

YASD on the vibrating square level
|
| |
I am completely devastated, I just made horrible mistake. My neutral human Archeologist after three weeks of real-time finally reached vibrating square level fully kitted, AC -35, 219 HP, XP 21, after many excruciating hours of mapping and digging out Gehennom. What I did to kill myself was digging a pit on VS level crawling out... more »

Applications for a drum of earthquake?
|
| |
In my current game, in Kaen's lair, there was a drum of earthquake. I think I've posted this question some time (it feels like a decade) ago, but don't recall that there was any useful application of the drum of earthquake mentioned. The best I've thought of was to keep monsters at distance, maybe to attack them ranged. Another option... more »

YAAP - comptril - lawful-human-monk
|
| |
So my latest in my attempt to ascend every class and race combo (when that's done I'll go back and do all the alignments I missed) was comptril a human monk (lawful). I haven't reviewed the ttyrecs yet, so my memory might be a little fuzzy on some details here. Nothing very memorable early on. There was an encounter with a... more »

What would a monk wish for?
|
| |
Playing a monk, currently XL:13, a lousy Int and Cha, other stats okay, but HP:85 and AC:-6 not very good, especially for the Monk's quest. The early game passed, have speed boots, gloves, helm, robe, a small shield, and in my bag of holding a shirt. Martial arts at Expert, but wielding the +5 Frostbrand seems more effective. Have reflection "AoR... more »
