As you noticed this isn't a bug of big severity. That's the reason why
it's not yet fixed.
Thanks for youxr mentioning it. That reminded me to replace a lot of
those calls with a simpler warning function.
The standard way in vanilla to inform the player that something went
wrong is sounds most of the time way more alarming than it should be.

The engraving will not take effect
until then.
You have a 70% chance (approximately) of writing "Elbereth" in the dust
correctly the first time -- contrast with the 100% chance of getting hit
once if you write "ElberethElbereth".

 Congratulations!
When I first started playing I thought that would be the case, but I
think monks or knights might be the easiest.
Partly eaten chickatrice corpse??? I think you get style points for
that. Did you poly into something that was stoning resistant?
Congrats again!

 Looks good to me!
I'd suggest finding the boots of levitation and boots of water
walking. Enchant and fireproof them. Levitation will be essential on
Air. Fireproof waterwalkers lets you cross lava on Fire although
levitation lets you do the same. I personally like to walk along the
ground to easily pick up that /oWishing that gets dropped by some

Well, I've finally ascended! Chaotic wizard, which I suspect is the
easiest role to ascend (or maybe it's just my playing style). I
rather overprepared... I was actually intending to polypile every
scroll, potion, ring and amulet in the game into something useful, but
eventually I realized that I could easily ascend, and forced myself to

With the elsethread mentioned drum of earthquake you could as well create
pits adjacent to water, AFAIR my former posting a couple years ago.
Janis

The most successful method of patching nethack is to use gcc and the
ansii version of nethack. That would be to use djgpp exclusively in the
microsoft world and to use what comes install with linux.
