a monk's only penalty for wearing a shield is the fact that you're
unable to deliver a stagging blow (4% chance with grand master skill,
but you're using a weapon anyway, so...), and the -20 to-hit penalty
for wearing body armor is balanced quite well since you're level 30
and have maxed luck (+43 to-hit)

After a few charges with a polymorph-wand on my pet, I ended up with a
vampire. Later on, i found a pair of boots, and since I already
identified all other kind of boots, i knew these were speed boots. My
vampire seems to like them as much as i do, since he kept them for
himself after i tried to make him check if they were cursed. I can't

Early wishes are not so unbalancing in Un as you can't wish for
magical items (although oilskin is very useful!). Un rewards careful
play and squeezing every possible advantage out of every item you
find. In Vanilla you can play carelessly, get lucky and go on to
ascend - this doesn't work in Un. Un forces you to accept that

 Less randomness? In what regard?
I hope the early and middle game is not harder for the new or casual
player.
My intention was to stop the exploiting player from taking shortcuts,
not to punish unspoiled players.
I'd say it makes you a better wishless player.
Why?
