Wouldn't detect foot be both more and less useful at level one?

More useful because it lets you exercise a useful skill and less
useful because it would be more likely to trick a careful shopper?

detecting one's feet is not a simple task...

The best use of Detect Food is to forget it and use it as a reliable
way of confusing yourself.
