Heh -- actually the kniting is done in the "real world". :-)
Ravelry is social networking site for knitters, crocheters, spinners, and other fiber enthusiasts. I suspect most Ravellers don't hang around usenet, although there could certainly be some Nethack players that check this board once in a while who use Ravelry too, hence the invite.

Or a woolen cap which infers cold resistance. No AC bonus though. Good for Monks and spell casters.

Yes all these ideas are great! And don't forget woolen socks! Maybe they'd work as snow boots, for example? :-)
Wool as cold resistance is a great idea of course. It also keeps you warm even when it's wet, but as it dries, it shrinks rapidly. So if you fall or jump into water while wearing it, 25 turns later you will start taking on damage from your head being squooshed.
And I love the blinding +2 needle notion. (pun intended)
