YANI: Priest skills by alignment

Vary the Priest skills by starting alignment. So lawful get the mace skill and a starting mace. Neuters get a staff. And Chaotic Priests start with a racial dagger and have dagger skill, the better to do same-race sacs with. -HJC

Hello. I have been playing nethack on-again/off-again for years now and have still never gotten close to ascending. YANI: Gecko special ability.

My office gets overrun by geckos (fnording tropics), so I'm well aware of a special ability that is missing from nethack. Geckos can hide on the ceiling. Just use the normal hiding routines and when your character walks into a gecko lose the move and have the gecko appear. This may seem rather pointless, but it could really annoy a low level... more »

Two ideas for trophies that I haven't yet seen in the June or November Nethack tournies: 1. "Dungeon-level-adjusted lowest-ascending score" -- since the Nethack log file clearly spits out the lowest dungeon level reached, it should be a simple calculation to remove this part from an ascension's score, making this trophy more about skill than the luck... more »

Polymorphing and starvation

I got polymorhed to a baby crocodile by a ring (which I then removed) and am now unable to move and I'm getting hungry. If I die of starvation while polymorphed do I return to my original form, preferably in a non-starving state?

Tournament Trophy question

(possible minor spoilers...) I had a very promising monk going a bit ago in the 2008 Nethack Tournament. I made it to the bottom of the Gnome King's Wine Cellar and had it 90% cleaned out when I stepped on a level teleport trap which took me back to DL1.
