I've been watching "High Stakes Poker" re-runs and am always amazed at how
badly Jamie Gold plays. It's astounding that a guy would go on TV and piss
away that much money week after week. Hell, even on those rare occasions
when he does have the best of it, he manages to win the absolute minimum.
The best thing this guy could do to improve his game would be to duct tape
his mouth shut. The deck ran over him in one WSOP ME and his cards were so
good he over came his constant and revealing table talk. But that one time
miracle tournament is long gone. And in perfect Jamie Gold style, he
managed to lose half of his $12M first place money in a law suit to a guy
who gave away a few tee shirts for him and miss out on God only knows how
much endorsement money in the bargain. I'm assuming Gold is pretty much
broke now because you never see him on "High Stakes Poker" any more. Plus,
I saw an interview with Eli Elezra and he was talking about a player who
once had $12M and is now too broke to play high limit any more. He didn't
mention Gold by name but there wasn't much mystery about who he was
referring to. My guess is all the high stakes players in Vegas shed a
collective team when Gold went broke and dropped out of the high stakes
games. Don't get me wrong. Gold seems like a pretty nice guy and he was
entertaining to watch when he was throwing his money away. But, over all,
it's just kind of sad to watch. If the guy had any friends they should have
done a "poker intervention" before he lost all his money. On a brighter
note, I think there's a lesson in there some where.

Irish Mike
