Is it just me, or does anyone else find Giada's emphatic Italian pronunciation of everything slightly annoying? It sounds a bit uppity to me. But I'm just a plain ole middle class Joisey girl, whaddoo I know? I like her shows and her recipes, otherwise.

Well.. her Italian is way better than mine, so it doesn't bother me! Now, looking at her makes me a little queasy but that's another issue. LOL

She's doing the same thing that hispanic reporters do. They really get into the pronunciation when it comes to Spanish, especially their names - "I'm Rigo Chacon, Channel 2 News".

Since she's bilingual (or more?), it only makes sense (to me). I'd like to be able to speak another language, but alas, I don't. Does high school french count?

Roflmao. I like watching her,,,,,,,BUT around here she's known as horse head - mouse face. She's so odd looking she's attractive.

She grew up in an Italian household. I'd annoyed if she used an American pronunciation for Italian words.

She reminds me of a bobble head doll. Big exaggerated features on a stick figure. Weird. I like her food though.

Yes, but she doesn't have an Italian accent until she says spaGITee.

I think her recipes are great and her food is good. However, the camera does sometimes make it look like she has a big head and teeth. Now Rachel Ray and the latest "whoring" herself out to the media and snack food producers is really getting to me.

I think she's beautiful.

You can't take it away from her, she works her ass off.

That doesn't bother me. The size of her mouth does. She looks like she's gonna swallow her own head if she yawns. But I think she can cook ok.

True. And after having been here in Naples for 2 months I must say that there isn't ANYTHING understated about the way Italians pronounce their words.

I have a part friend that can't watch Giada without getting physically ill over her accent.
I, on the other hand, find her absolutely enchanting.
I haven't tried her recipes, but I find her very attractive.
Don't put yourself down as being "just a plain ole middle class Joisey girl"; I'd kill to have "a plain ole middle class Joisey girl" in my life....

Oh, try it. It's good. You can find the recipe on the Food Network site. I make it frequently. I thought that I had copied the recipe to my recipe file -- if I did, I don't know where I put it. I'll have to find it again. Janet

Yup, that girl's got a big face. But I've noticed that no one has complained about her cooking, so she must be decent at it. IOW, she's no Sandra Lee when she's behind the range... ;-)

Doesn't anybody else see what I see? FoodTV has degenerated into a personality-fest, pablum for the nitwits, and has almost totally abandoned the idea of teaching serious cooking to the viewers. There is a great preference for some inane, perky-titted numbskull over any serious chef.
Where is Mario Batali? Annoying as he was, he knew his ingredients and knew how to cook, and one could learn from him. Where is Pepin? He knows more about cooking than 1000 Rays and Emerils and Giadas and Countesses and Flays all put together.
FoodTV panders to the lowest level of the audience, and I bet they are very successful. As H.L. Mwncken said, you'll never go broke underestimating the taste of the American public.

No, I don't see it...because I stopped tuning in about that time. They lost me a couple of years ago. And apparently they don't care or notice because they're not doing higher quality shows anymore to cater to folks like me. They've gone to the lowest common denominator and catered to the advertisers too much.

People say that all the time. That's been commented on many times.

I don't know. It's their stated goal, it's not just cooking. Mario seems to be on the Iron Chef show, and after watching his Chefography, I have no idea how he finds time to do that.

Americans love to quote that. Usually they mean some American public that doesn't include themselves, I guess.
