Jade Appraisal
I was in rural China in 1988, had time to visit a Jade factory. Was advised they only worked in high quality "Burma" Jade. After the visit I was able to obtain a few pieces that I have enjoyed these many years. I am now looking to down size and want to sell in a market where the uniqueness and apparent quality will bring the best... more »

I have plastic bags used for jewelry to keep electronic components in. Currently, I am using a fly box that is 1 1/2 deep, 5 inches wide, and 8 inches long.   I am interested in using traditional hand tools for jewelry fabrication. I understand there are several types of hand drills; spiral drill, hand crank drill, and the kind that uses a stick and rope. I have a Dremel and don't want to spend on a flex shaft yet. What is the best bet for a traditional hand drill to drill holes up... more »

What tools please?
Hi, Could someone advise me on what type of tools/kit I need to buy for shaping small pieces of stone please? The material is really soft - it can be scratched with a point of a nail, and can be cut with an ordinary hacksaw/ drill. What I would like is to make small (around 1cm to 3cm) figurines from it, so... more »

seal watch parts into jewelry
I'm experimenting with 'steampunk' look jewelry and wanted to create a design on a 316 steel pendant or ring. After I set the tiny pocketwatch parts in place, what do you recommend to clear seal and protect them? I thought about epoxy, but what about marine varnish or wood floor sealer. Obviously, the harder and more scratch resistant... more »

MOVADO Wristwatch ... Real or Fake?
Hello! I recently purchased a "Movado" wristwatch for a very modest price at an estate sale, and I was wondering if there are any telltale ways to distinguish an authentic Movado watch from a potential knock-off piece from a New York City street vendor. In particular, the men's watch I have resembles a Movado Portico, but... more »
