Spent Tues, Weds, and Thurs in Cedar Creek Recording with daughter Shaidri and cellist Doug Harman. We did okay, cutting head-on without headphones. How is it determined that a monitor is good/accurate?

It seems like it would be a catch 22. If it's correct that any mic and any speaker colors sound, any recorded sound you run though it is colored by the mic to begin with - so how you do you tell that you're accurately reproducing sound that's to some degree inaccurate to begin with? I speak primarily for home speakers, which usually come in their own cabinets, but this could also extend to drivers mounted in the dashes, doors, and rear shelves & pillars of automobiles: ANY speaker will sound inferior if what they are mounted in/on/next to/ or near resonates sympathetically(or not so sympathetically) with the... more »

Hi, I'm working on an old Supro head and cab amp that has a hard to fix hum. It would be helpful to find a schematic. Hello there, I am building a studio in the UK and looking for a similar product to the Realtraps Mini-traps. They seem like the ideal solution but shipping them to the UK will be expensive. Does anybody know of anything of equal quality that is easily purchased in the UK? Thanks Robin.

CPU Performance of USB sound cards

In anybody's practical experience, do these outboard USB 'audio interfaces' put more strain on the CPU & RAM than PCI cards? If anybody has used an M-Audio Fast Track, I'd like to hear what you thought of record/monitor latency. (It's either that or their Delta 44 PCI card) Cheers,
