I don't know what "slow" mean in terms of a news server. Do you mean that you don't get today's messages until tomorrow, or do you mean that your mail program dwells on "sending message" when you've replied, or takes a few seconds to download all the headers?
When Verizon dropped newsgroups, I switched to Eternal September and that's worked out OK for me. But occasionally it'll take several seconds to post a message. I guess I could better ignore that response time if I did my news reading and posting off line, but I'm retired. I have plenty of time. I catch up on my Solitaire playing during the gaps. ;)

Text groups only, no binaries, runs cleanfeed so you don't see those annoying adverts for Chinese running shoes, and costs ten Euros a year.

Yep. I've been using that service for a couple of years and it has been consistently good.

When Comcast stopped providing newsgroups, I went with Forte. It's cheap and I'm very satisfied with it. I'm also on a Mac.
