If you have a hum problem, add the wire.

Solder a wire to a ground point on the turntable chassis, or screw it down
a convenient point.  Make sure the armtube makes good contact to the chassis
as well somewhere (some arms will use a fifth wire for this).  Run the wire
from the chassis to the preamp ground screw.

If you don't have wire, ask your local auto parts store to sell you a couple
feet of #22 wire.  It's traditional to use grey color for ground references
that are not power ground or safety grounds.  Radio Shack will not sell wire
by the foot any more.
