That's been available here for many, many years, and is a very sensible
servive. You walk, or take a bus, to the store, and then call a taxi to
get you and your heavy load home. It's a LOT cheaper than owning a car
(assuming you live relatively near a store) and a great service for
those who can't drive dor some reason.
At least one major grocery store that my mother, who no longer drives
herself, goes to allows a taxi company to park some of their cars on the
parking lot, so she calls the dispatcher from the special phone, and the
driver is at the entrance immediately. The bigger malls have taxis at or
near the doors too, at least during peak shopping times.
Sometimes taxi companies that don't have special phones put stickers
with their numbers on the few remaining pay phones in grocery stores or
malls.
