A rather obscure poet from New Hampshire, she managed to put
herself through Bates College as an adult and graduate in
1899. She had published her first book of poetry in 1895,
when she was 23 years old. She died young in 1912. This
one, from First Poems, made me think of Stephen Crane's works:
Nature, towering, proudly asked,
"Do you not admire me?"
"Hush," I cried, "you know I do,
But just now you tire me."
