I'll try the ones that are on the shelves now. Thus far, I have
found the ones in this country have NOT been as yummy as the ones
from Oz with the exception of a box we got that had not been made
for sale here.

Hello David! the movie is great! It seems a videogame adventure. I
wonder if in the future the movies will be interactive and you can
change the point of view of the characters and seeing the movie with
the eyes of a different person just clicking a button.

The last paragraph interests me. I'll have to compare some of
these.
I rather like the human frailties that are abundantly evident in
the series I alluded to. The protagonists have problems and can
be somewhat morose. They even have bodily functions.

Not exactly talking about Spenser, but I had in mind the scandal
created by Agatha Christie when she was accused of breaking the rule
of fair-play betwen author and reader by making the narrator the
culprit in The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (1926).
Choosing unusual culprits is absolutely a way to freshen up a mystery

I think you need to get the proper Arnott's Tim Tams, if at all
possible. My local supermarket stocks the regular and the caramel... and
believe you me, you have to be quick on the draw when you see them on
the shelves, they go that fast!

I'm in the middle of The Mammoth Book of New Sherlock Holmes Adventures,
edited by Mike Ashley. Really enjoying it; all the authors have kept to
the general tone & style of Conan Doyle (though I think I found Jeremy
Brett's interpretation of Holmes creeping into one of the stories).
Next up... still debating, but probably Small Favor by Jim Butcher.

Lady in the Lake - movie

I renewed my acquaintence with this 1947 adaptation of Raymond
Chandler's novel recently. I liked it a lot but many didn't. Just as
Chandler's novel was told in the first person the movie tried to do
the same with a subjective camera - the camera because the protagonist
- the only time we see Marlowe (Robert Montgomery who also directed)

My grocery, Raley's, had them a few weeks ago, and after hearing about
them here, I bought one of each - chocolate creme and caramel. I know
this is blasphemy, but I thought they were just OK. I won't buy

I agree. Parker's book rarely rise to the word-count of a novella any
more, they're more like long short stories with a lot of white space.
Which is why I always get his books from the library. Sometimes I just
sit down there and read them. Why bother taking them home?

We tried the traditional route with the first book in my husband's
series ([link]) . 50 agents all with the standard "not
right for us."
Did you know it costs about $8 per proposal that you send? So I guess
we could have tried another 100 or 200 or thousand agents/publishing

A quick visit to our only local independent bookseller and there was a
Indridason on the shelf! A good read ahead!
HYPOTHERMIA is the title. A sure sign that Indridason is doing well
is the publisher. Canadian rights have been picked up by Random House
Canada, so the US publications are a thing of the past here.

See I was wondering if there might be issues, but it does come down to
the fact that libraries and bookstores order books anyway, right? So it
shouldn't really matter. MWA doesn't like POD presses, and I'm not sure
about reviews. More investigation is in order.

POD is a printing process; I think you meant libraries don't buy
self-published books, most of which are printed by a POD process.
Maybe it's partly because the word makes one think of pod people, false
and empty books replacing real ones and some guy running up the highway
screaming "they're here!"

They influenced everybody! The main similarity with Mankell, though, is
that Martin Beck is a little rumpled and has a cold and isn't heroic.
There's a lot of low-key humor in the books and very little in the way
of high drama. I wish Mankell had a bit more of their light touch.
They are often said to have imitated Ed McBain's 87th precinct series
