Hi all,

I’m relatively new to python. I’m using a process simulation package
which is stuck in the past unfortunately – it would not support any
version older than python 2.2. This fairly frustrating as you can
imagine.

This means I cannot use pyExcelerator or xlwt to create spreadsheets

I would have guessed that
you would set:

sheet.protect = True

and

sheet.wnd_protect = False

but that seems to have no effect, at least on this score.

 Hi guys,

I have a 3 level outline and I'd like to have all 2nd level groupings
collapsed by default. The private 'collapse' variable gave me hope
initially but after trying various things to set it, I haven't had
much luck. Is there any way to get around this?

Thanks

Sorry for the question. I have just started using xlrd and it seems to
be the perfect solution for what I need (read an excel file into
python!! :-). I noticed that version 0.71 is out. Now, what is the
best way for updating the package without messing things up? I am on
Windows XP. I assume the new version is backward compatible.

 Hi,
I'm a new user of xlrd.
I was just noticing that any field in Excel represented as number will be
interpreted by xlrd as a python float then has one decimal point. For
example 4 would be represented as 4.0.
I realize this is easy to fix in any python code by converting to an int and
then converting to a str, but I'm wondering if there's a way to change how

I have been working with the packages xlwt and xlrd.

I have an excel file that has "xyz" in the first cell. All I want to
do is print the value of cell 0,0 and change the cell value to "abc"
then save the workbook.

It seems like all I can do now is either read the value with xlrd, or
write a new worksheet with xlwt.

 Hello,
the background color of a cell can be set to an indexed value. Now I
am wondering if it is possible to set an arbitrary (e.g. RGB) value...
Thanks,
Pascal

 Hi,
I'm a newbie to xwlt. I'm sorry if this question but answered many times in
the past but I can't find the answer.
How can I insert a row into a speadsheet I have open. I found that it was
much easier to fill all the rows and then go back and provide formulas. But
now I need to insert a blank row and can't figure out how to get that done.
