Hi Alex,

I've begun a draft on this. I know it's bad timing for you, but if you get a chance you might jot down a few ideas of your own.

Excellent!

I'm working on the program for the Australian National LETS Conference.
Dates are Oct 24 & 25th, 2009.

We're looking around for interesting projects to showcase, and I noticed NTW.  It sounds like you guys are getting some good stuff done. What's going on at the moment?

Would you be interested in doing a short presentation about your project at our conference?

Hi Annette,
Like LETS, our approach is to think global and act local, so I'm sure what we are doing would be of some interest and relevance to the people at your conference.

Perhaps you could let me know what you are planning for presentations?

Having laid out our 'grand design' (www.ntw.110mb.com) we are working on two fronts - our neighbourhood's relationships and cooperative processes to empower greater grass roots cooperation.

We see the greatest potential for neighbourhood development in those who are alienated, isolated, poor or disenchanted. They have the least invested in the status quo, are most desperately in need of change and opportunity and are most available to participate in new ways.

This is perhaps quite a reversal of the idea that 'leaders' or more powerful people hold the key to progress for others and for society as a whole.

For this reversal to happen, processes empowering cooperation and community need to be available instead of the current disempowering ones that rely on and build up 'leaders'. This has been a major focus over recent months.

To start to strengthen and develop connections between neighbours, we are promoting what our 'neighbourhood' already has to offer. (see http://groups.google.com.au/group/hope-street-neighbourhood). Just click around the links to see what we have been working on.

Through these promotions we want to encourage people to use the internet in a new way so as to connect people across the road, not just across the globe. Even just a few connections make a big difference in a neighbourhood's dynamics.

With strength for from real rather than just virtual connections, and with the support of better processes for cooperation we are building towards the grand design of 'neighbourhood that works'.

Regards
Chris Baulman
