I used to have it at dinner but with all you can eat places springing up like Starbucks, I now have lunch as the big meal. It's cheaper since I cannot eat any more at dinner time than at lunch time. Lunch is usually 40% cheaper than dinner. True, dinner might have some premium choices such as crab legs or schrimps, I think lunch is the better deal.
Also I wonder if eating a big dinner makes weight gain easier. Any calories not burnt by bed time probably turns into fat.

I dont bother with lunch at all.
> It's cheaper since I cannot eat any more at dinner time than at lunch time.
Cheaper to not eat out.

Thats the theory, that food relatively close before sleeping makes weight gain easier. Not clear if that's ever been rigorously scientifically proven, but likely it has because some that want weight gain like Sumo wrestlers do it that way, deliberately eat before sleeping.

As a welfare recipient you have no need to rise early and expend energy.

Those of us with jobs and disposable incomes enjoy the convenience of dining out. We often do it with friends, another thing lacking in your pitiful life.
"I used to have it at dinner but with all you can eat places springing up like Starbucks, I now have lunch as the big meal".

Lunch is usually 40% cheaper than dinner. True, dinner might have some premium choices such as crab legs or shrimps, I think lunch is the better deal. Also I wonder if eating a big dinner makes weight gain easier. ------------------------ I presume you are relating this to being "frugal". I do not know if you're retired or not either. Lots of us are on a fixed income and it is a hellof alot cheaper to fix a meal at home. I eat my big meal around 1PM...and snack in the late evening.
Those of us who take cholesterol-lowering meds are usually asked to take a little something on your tummy with that kind of med.
I only eat out if I have a friend who wants to go out. If I have a choice on time of day, I prefer breakfast. Lots of places have a senior breakfast.
I find lots of places, where you sit down and are served, are cheaper than fast food. Use to be you went where the truckers eat..now it's eat where the seniors eat. If you live near a hospital, their cafeterias are usually the cheapest any where.
But being retired we have all the time in the world to prepare a meal. Another reason I like a noon meal is because I clean the mess up then and do not have dirty dishes sitting around in the afternoon/evening hours.
I also prefer eating at home because I have low tolerance for 'waiting' in lines, waiters/waitresses who act like you're interrupting their social life, and at home, you can eat in your boxer shorts and post in groups and check your email, while you're eating and you don't have to figure out what the tip should be.

Why any any "big" meal? Why not several small meals?
Myself, I find I can eat cheaper when I make the meals myself than when I buy them in a restaurant. This makes all the meals pretty much equally affordable.

By a hell of a lot, actually. Well under half the price with most of the stuff I have for dinner, less than 10% of the price with some of it like currys.

yea, no kidding, especially if you eat lots decent foods like fresh fruits and vegetables which are very expensive in terms of $/calorie, not cheap at all to make a decent home made meal, most people who claim home made lunches are super cheap usually show me a white bread peanut butter and jelly sandwich, "see only 20 cents!", ok your right, but no thanks....

You arent buying calories in modern first world countrys.
> not cheap at all to make a decent home made meal,
Bullshit.
> most people who claim home made lunches are super cheap usually show > me a white bread peanut butter and jelly sandwich, "see only 20 cents!",
Mine which is home made whole grain bread, hot spanish salami, pickle and lettuce wouldnt even cost that.

That is if you can cook. I tend to burn things a lot by forgetting I have something cooking. I've even burnt more than one pot while just boiling water. The other cost is rotting food. I almost never finish a loaf of bread before it get moldy. Fruits and veges rot because I forget I have them in the back of the frig.

I'm surprised hospital cafeterias are cheap considering how everything else in hospital is soooo expensive. How much is your average meal there?
I haven't had breakfest out in years. It's the most expensive in terms of what it would have costed at home.

Bread keeps very well if you freeze it. I just pry off a couple of frozen slices as I use it.
Just buy only enough fresh fruit you will actually use in a week. For instance I usually take one piece of fruit each day in my lunch bag.
Likewise I only buy the fresh veggies I plan to use. Otherwise I buy them in a frozen bag that I can dole out just the quantity I use.

You cant burn a sandwitch or rice cooked in a rice cooker.
There's plenty of other food cooked using a timer which cant be burnt either.
> I've even burnt more than one pot while just boiling water.
Not even possible if you use an electric kettle to boil the water.
> The other cost is rotting food. I almost never > finish a loaf of bread before it get moldy.
Then you should put half of it in the freezer.
> Fruits and veges rot because I forget I have them in the back of the frig.
You're just looking for excuses to do things the expensive way.

We usually don't have a "big meal", but when we decide to eat out we like to make it a late lunch. Eating at noon always leaves me hungry late in the day, and breakfast usually lasts us until 2 or 3. It can also be nice that restaurants aren't terribly busy. The things you have to watch out for are staff changing shifts (and sometimes forgetting the customers are there), and when they change menus from lunch to dinner.

Just my point, no fresh fruits and vegetables (did you even read my post?), just extremely cheap "dime store" fatty meats and processed wheat, all man made crap lunch you got there (except for the lettuce, but what do you have, maybe 2 calories worth of it).
Tell me how many calories of fresh tomatoes can you buy for 20 cents? One medium tomato has 20 calories and you can't buy one tomato for 20 cents. Same for cucumbers, peppers, celery, oranges etc . How much would 500 or even 250 calories of the above cost? Multiple it by 5 for a family lunch. Go look it up an report back and tell me again with a straight face it's cheap to eat fresh fruits and vegetables in first world counties, that is the most idiotic statement I ever heard

Nope.

Even someone as stupid as you should have noticed that lettuce is just that.
> (did you even read my post?),
Bit hard to comment on the individual bits like I clearly did otherwise, stupid.
AND there is fuck all 'decent foods like fresh fruits and vegetables' in the original terminally silly line about eating out anyway.
