Translation: Whatever you're trying to install, your machine needs some
other updates to be installed first.

Windows version?  Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?  Are you
attempting to install an update (e.g., Vista SP1) manually or via Windows
Update?

I also cannot get the service pack to install.  I'm running Vista 32 bit
Ultimate and windows update keeps trying to download the service pack
and it fails every time with this same error code.  Please assist with
this as when I went to download it directly as other threads suggest it
says not to if you are only installing it on one computer.

SUS_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
The installer requires more data to be downloaded

You can do the manual download and install and use it on a single PC. When you download
the file save it in case you ever need it again.

Things to know before you download Windows Vista SP1
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsvista/bb968859.aspx

By getting the file through WU it has the advantage of recognising any problem area, the
download size is much smaller etc etc.

If you have already been offered the update and your only problem is as above, then by all
means manually download and install the file.

As a precaution, always back up your computer before doing any major service pack updates.

I'm getting this error too. I have tried it 2 times with the same results.
One person below, said they un-installed the Japan and Korean language packs
and it worked for him.

Can someone at MS look into this?

My guess is if there was a language pack issue it would have been Raided and
fixed so, could it be some other test scenario not in the test plan?

Is this a new error that is unknown on campus?

Also, it does come back with an error, however it does not have a link to
what to do for the error. I just sends us to this blog. If there was a error
number, should there should be some sort of exception error message or
something.

OS:  Windows Vista Ultimate

Short List of Applications Anstalled:

Visual Studio 2008, Visual Studio 2005 (SQL Reporting), Windows SDK,
Office 2007, SQL Server, Expression everything, Adobe Premier (Video
Editing), Starry Night (astronomy), QuickTime, and other misc applications.

I always keep up with every window update provided

The last windows update I chose to install all of the updates, which
included all of the language packs.

Then yesterday I tried to install the Vista SP1, two times, and both times
it downloaded the SP, and received the error.

I have seen others mention that they removed the language packs, Japan,
Korea, or something like that, and they were able to install the SP.

One person said they reinstalled Vista and it worked.

It sounds like Vista SP1 may have issues with Vista installations that have
these language packs installed. A new install would not have these language
packs installed.

Is there any way to check product studio to see if there were any bugs
raided against installing with different language packs, or to verify if
these tests were done?

Thank you very much for helping with this matter, it is greatly appreciated.

I was installing Vista SP1 from Windows Update.
I can see the Japan and Korea updates in the “Review you update history”,
however…
It says at the top of that page, “…To remove an update, to go Installed
Updates.
Well, I go there and I do not see where I would un-install the Japan or
Korea language pack.
So, if I’m unable to uninstall the language pack, and I’m unable to install
Vista SP1 because of the Japan and Korea language pack, then, what would be a
good next step.
The cost benefit for rebuilding this machine from scratch for an issue like
this one is not one I would want to move forward on. I have too much stuff to
re-install and configure for it to be worthwhile.
Any ideas?
Thanks again for your help

The update handler did not install the update because it needs to be
downloaded again.

Suggest you either post this issue here:

Windows Vista Service Packs/Windows Server 2008 Service Packs
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistasp/threads

Troubleshoot it yourself:
How to troubleshoot Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 service pack
installation issues
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947366

or contact MS for *no-charge support* in getting SP2 installed:

> Free unlimited installation and compatibility support is available for Windows Vista, but only for
> Service Pack 2 (SP2).

Start here:
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=11732&st=1
Select the edition of Vista installed.
Click the down arrow next to "Support topic:"; choose " Service Pack 2 "
Now click the next down arrow next to " Sub-topic: ", choose
" Installation issue "
Click the Continue button.

HINT: the entire SP2 was *not* downloaded. You can download the entire
standalone SP2 package, *save* it, and the read this prior to installing
it: Learn how to install Windows Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2)
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-vista/Learn-how-to-install...

Although it's not listed on the above page, *strongly suggest* that you
either completely and totally disable the installed antivirus/security
suite or, uninstall it for now,  so that it does not interfere with the
installation of SP2.
