[Error number: 0x80248011] This is the error message I get when I search for
updates. Completely uniformative. What's going on Microsoft? How about some
answers? I can see others have the same problem.

Hey hacked off, where's your manners?

We're only volunteers here. You didn't even state what operating system
you're using.

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the
0x80248011 error.

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates on
the Windows Update Web site

If you're really lucky MS might respond to your question here:

This isn't a site; it is a newsgroup.
Outlook Express 6 is that current and last version.
Perhaps you meant IE 7 and IE8.

There is an update for IE8 available.  It installed with no problems on this
computer today.
