Subject: UpdateListItems web service does not update field

This question was posted by a colleague but it hasn't received a reply.  I'm
guessing his TechNet benefits was not configured correctly so I'm reposting
it for him.

I'm using _vti_bin/lists.asmx?op=UpdateListItems web service to update a task
list field passing the required infromation but the update does not take
place and the web service does not return an error. The ID of the item exists
and is the correct item to update. The account used by the web service to
make the update has Contirbute permissions on the list. Any ideas what has
gone wrong?

Here is a sample of the xml used.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<soap:Envelope xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"
xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
    <soap:Body>
        <UpdateListItems
xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sharepoint/soap/">
            <listName>Tasks</listName>
                <updates>
                    <Batch OnError="Continue" ListVersion="1">
                    <Method ID="1" Cmd="Update">
                        <Field Name="ID">199</Field>
                        <Field Name="AssignedTo">Joe</Field>
                    </Method>
                    </Batch>
                </updates>
        </UpdateListItems>
    </soap:Body>
</soap:Envelope>
