Has anyone been able to figure this out yet? I have the same problem. It used to work until a couple months ago when we changed the internal Ip address of the server and now it no longer works. I've followed the kb articles about changing the settings in IE which didn't work. I made sure the changed IP addresses were set in IIS.

Essentially, I need all email traffic derived from SharePoint to be in
plain text. This includes, alerts, invitations, task assignments,
tasks overdue, etc.... Just wondering if there is a configuration I
can go change, etc...
Looking for any/all ideas.

What do you mean by setting up sharepoint emails? can you shed some
more light to it.
Do you mean to setup alerts to be setup in plain text, or email
enabled document library to be setup in plain text?

I have a couple of questions here.
1. After restoring the databases, were you able to open up sharepoint
central admin without any dealy.
2. Does this issue happen on all the web applications, or just one of
them.
3. If it is happening to all the webapplicaitons, does it affect the
top level site only or the issue is faced even on subsites.

Try adding [link] to local intranet zone in the web browser
and see if it works. Also add the entry to the host file on the local
machine to see if it makes any difference. If you have created a
record in the DNS this should redirect the hits to the correct server
and the site should open up. Make sure you have also added intranet as

I have an issue I wanted to seek advice on.
Due to our email configurations (Federal Government), I am required to
set up all of the SharePoint emails to be in plain text format.

OK, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong here. I'm trying to create
a friendly url ([link]) for my sharepoint site (http://
sp.playground.com).
SharePoint server is Windows 2008 SP2 w/IIS 7
I've added an Internal URL under Alternate Access Mappings for "http://
