CQWP and a list of subwebs

How can I configure a CQWP to get a list of all immediate subwebs of the
current website (preferably with links to welcome pages of these subwebs)?
It seems to me that a list of subwebs with links to their welcome pages
should be a standard navigation element of any website and yet I cannot find
any way to configure CQWP for such functionality.
