If found tables Links and AllLinks with column TargetDirName which has
the string I wanted to replace.. but SOMEHOW.. the specific Url data
column in question is NOT coming from there?? this is a List with
Links that point to ASPX pages .. not DOCs.

Following a migration from SPS 2003 to MOSS 2007 and subsiquent stsadm

All three servers MOSS, WFE1 and WFE 2 are running
Moss/SharePoint Server. WFE is a ROLE on a server,
which could(in many cases) also be added to your "MOSS" server

So are you trying to have the workflow "state" for all inprogress
workflows moved, so that they can resume processing on the new URL?
Don't think that is possible.
Also, If you are using SPD workflows, you are still going to need
to do some "fixing" to get the workflow attached to the right lists
on the new site. They don't move well, but there are some articles

DNS really just maps a user friendly name to
an IP address. Thats it. All the rest has to be accomplished
in the solution as described in the articles. THere are
ways to do that as the article decribes, but DNS will
just get you to an IP.

about automatically creating navigation elements to guide users
to the pages of content you have created in SharePoint Server 2007.
Take a look at the Publishing Infrastructure/site templates. this may

what you are looking for.

Thanks for the reply.
However, what you have suggested also means members of Readers are
able to read all documents in the Document Library. I understand that
this can be solved by setting individual permission for each of the
document.
But what about the workflow (approval by manager) part ?
I know MOSS2007 has an approval workflow that comes out-of-the-box.

out of the box i dont think so.
U can try to use the Content Editor Webpart listing all subsites, and
if a user cllick on one that he has no access, a restricted page is
shown.
Here , in Portugal we made a custom made Webpart to do the listing.
