If i take the content editrors off. I don't get a problem.

I am not seeing that behavior.
What is your 3rd web part? Maybe it's specific to that kind?
What about the content? I just entered some simple text: "first ctwp" and "second ctwp" respectively.
Paul, It occurs on a somewhat random basis. Basiclly when adding more than 2 CEWP on a blank web part page I get the error. I have tried with a custom master and also a default master. Both work in some places, both don't work in others.

I am seeing the same behavior when there are more than 2 document library web parts on my MOSS 2007 site. Were you able to resolve this issue? I cannot readily reproduce the issue in my test or dev environment however was able to do a restore of my prod to dev and see the issue. I am using next to zero customizations. Please let me know if you are still seeing the issue or how you corrected it, thank you!!!!
I have not found any solution or figured out how to replicate the issue. I have heard nothing from MS regarding this matter either. I was hoping since We now have at least 5 diffrent people with this problem that something/someone might come out with a fix or atleast acknowledge an issue was occuring but not yet.

Hey Stephen,
I am having the exact same issue ... WSS 3, SharePoint 2007 ...
When attempting to edit a web part I receive the following pop-up error ...
Line: 2135 Char: 4 Error: 'style.display' is null or not an object
When I move the web part to a lower part of the page (for example) I receive another pop-up error:
Error: 84 Unspecified error
When I attempt to move the web part to another zone I receive the generic SharePoint error page saying: "An unexpected error has occurred." ... and it will not more the web part to another zone

I was having the exact same problem. IE7 returns a "'style.display' is null or not an object" error whenever I try to use the drop down menu on a content web part after I've populated it with content. Funny enough, it didn't happen every time or with all my content editors.
I did some testing and it appears that if you copy the entire text from another web part displayed in IE (I've only tried from other content editors) it will copy not just the text, but it's formatting _and_ a <div> tag. It's this tag that causes the problem in my case. After removing it (using Source Editor before exiting Edit Mode), the content editor drop down works fine.
With the error appearing the source code looks like this;
Notice the double Div tag in the first code, with the same id.
I don't know if this is the case for everybody else, but it solved the problem for me by using Word (or any other text processor) as an in-between step for copy and paste to strip out any formatting.
I apologize if I'm being unclear. Please feel free to comment.
I have seen this error even when I only have 1 CEWP on the page. The thing is that it doesn't happen consistently. I have pages with multiple web parts including multiple CEWP's and list web parts--no problem. Then I have other pages with just 1 web part--Javascript error.

I resolved our issue after viewing Frode's post. The resolution was a bit different, but his post gave me additional details in order to troubleshoot. My issue was resolved by clearing the source code within the Content Editor Web Part Source Editor text box. It appears the issue was related to conflicting IDs, perhaps from copy/pasting content editor web part information. Here are the steps we performed that resolved the issue: 1) Place page in edit mode 2) Edit the content of the content editor web part by selecting the 'modify web part' drop down menu 3) Select the Rich Text Editor and copy the text if you do not want to lose it. 4) Select Source Editor button, this opens the HTML source code for the CE Web Part 5) Remove the source code. Our source code had a conflicting ID. 6) Update CE web part and make sure source code does not have auto generated code, or just add a new content editor web part.
Hopefully this helps others. And hopefully the issue does not re- appear:|

Check out http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg... Post from that thread -- I resolved our issue after viewing Frode's post.
End included post
However, we can't edit the offending CE web part. We can't even get out of Edit mode on that page without getting an error. Alas.
We have the same problem, only more so--we did copy content from a CEWP on another site and would be happy to do as Rebecca suggests, but we can't edit the web part, and once on the page in Edit mode, can't even return to View mode without getting an error and an invitation to troubleshoot. We're on wssv3, not MOSS (yet).
Hi Guys, Yeah unfortunately if you have a Shared site instead of a standard publishing site, you don't have the option to edit web parts from a side bar menu and instead can only edit them through their personal menu. The work around for me was to connect to the page through SharePoint Designer and delete the entire contenteditor web part from the web part zone and then go back to the front page and recreate it, this time with the correctly formatted text.
Great postings! Thanks to all who have replied. We were having the same issue. Tried editing the CEWP via SharePoint Designer. Not only did that work but after doing so the web interface now works without the scritping error in IE. We have replicated this 'work around' with a couple of differant instances. Give it a shot and please reply with your thoughts as to why this fixes the issue.
