I bought office home and student 1/11/2008 when I purched my
Toshiba Lap top from best buy. But on 11/30/2009 I restored my computer to
factory standards because of problems. I am using my original software
product to reinstall, but Microsoft does not recognize my product key and
will only allow me to use the software for 25 days without it. How do I fix

Did you purchase a full version conversion activation key from Digital River
(Microsoft)? You convert from a trial to a paid for version.
Since the trial doesn't work, did the computer every have a trial version of
Office on the computer before. If it did that is the issue you are having.
One trial per "year" version (2003, 2007, etc.) per customer.

Another that did not save the email from Digital River and the file on
separate media. Might be an expensive mistake.
There are programs that can retrieve an installation key from non-working
disk drives. You will need to Google for one. As for the download, you
need the order information that you received when you ordered the product

OK, I manually removed the various files and reg keys as indicated (as
add/remove software hadn't worked), and rebooted.
I tried to install the full version from the CD, the install window came up
with no reference to the trial version (yay), but ended with message
"encountered an error during setup."

When I downloaded the trial, it asked me if I wanted to activate and I
did. The program now says that my trial lasts through Feb 2010. The
problem is when I hit "convert" [to full version], nothing happens. I
can't enter a full version activation key or anything. What should I
do?

I bought and downloaded Office for Home and Student and ran it on Vista. I
upgraded to Windows 7 and had to do a clean install. I do not have any
installation CDs because it was downloaded.
Is there a place in the Windows.Old folder where I can find the

THANK YOU!!! I'm not a techie and couldn't understand everything the others

Peter, I really appreciate your advice. I thought that the custom setup
allowed you to keep your original version of Office 2007 and also install
2010. One of my friends was able to install the beta version and keep 2007.

2 issues;
everytime I start an office program, a user account control window opens up.
I have to set the UAC to "never notify" (not recommended). How can I fix
this so that I can set the default back to a recommended level.
documents will not open automatically in office programs when double
clicked. Have to open the doc thru an open office program.
