Hey mate I've got a 1.67ghz G4 powerbook with 1.5gig ram and also
running 10.4.11.I only have one mandala but runs great through virtual
brain and battery 3....Hope this helps.

you can download the program for free and try it on your computer to
see how it runs. i think it will basically work on your machine but
probably be a little bit sluggish. you will need some type of audio
interface to get the audio out though. any mac before the intel based
macs are pretty lame when it comes to putting out sound from pro audio

losing the mandala too

The other day I stated that this was not a problem, now it is. Got
things running now, but one of my drums will shut off, seems like
during playing a lot of notes in sequence. I have to go back into
battery and turn the mandala off/on. And, no I'm not running through
a hub, it's directly to the pc. Any thoughts? I'm reluctantly thinking

just plain control burst gives you no control of how the mandala will
be set up. it pumps a configuration into your pad which is exactly
the way it should be for the mandala battery 3 presets that the
company made. control burst exp is more advanced and lets users set
the pad any way they want for any program. there's a good explanation

Yes, I got that far with battery. What is the difference between control burst and control burst exp? Should I not be using exp? It seems to work.

you can do it that way (disconnect one at a time) or just make sure
you properly change the settings for each device in control burst as
you set up each pad and then disconnect them all at once (PC only, Mac
requires no disconnection) and quit control burst.

You could connect and set up each drum one at at time, so there's no
chance for control burst or the vb to mess up already finished
configurations.

- connect the pad you want to configure
- use control burst to set it up
- disconnect the drum
- close control burst
- connect the next pad and repeat (with the next midi channel)

Yes, I read the file. I guess I thought these presets were separate files..so they are basically templates, and the sound files are in the battery 3 library..alrighty then.

have you read the readme file that was in your downloaded mandala
battery folder? it tells you that when you load a preset the audio
files will come up as 'missing' so just choose 'browse' and direct it
toward the folder called 'Battery 3 Library' and you'll be fine. it's

Okay, I've chased this up a tree, I think. I set up control burst like
Killing joke specified. However, the burst app does not seem to save
settings for the second mandala, which should be on channel two,
right? So, if Im using control burst, I don't need to mess with the

It's up to you how you want to set up the zones/midi channels.

I like to set up each pad to a single MIDI channel:

1. choose the mandala
2. choose the number of zones (i use 6)
3. set zone 1 to channel 1 and note 60 (which is C3, but it's up to
you which note you choose)
set zone 2 to channel 1 and note 61

mandalas is battery, and clumisily being able to assign one zone per
cell through the vb. I'm confused about control burst, I thought one
pad goes on one channel, and another pad on another channel. I'm not

I'm using a D-Link powered 7-port hub now. I've had the problem before
the hub, but it has gotten worse with it.

Yet I still need the hub, because I don't have enough ports on my
notebook.

what kind of hub are you using? is it powered? if you can avoid any
hub at all you'd probably be better off...either by using actual usb
ports on your machine or getting a card with ports on it.

Thanks, I am thinking rewire is the way to go, just need to read up on
how to use it ;). I think VAC may be conflicting with my existing
audio driver (Profire 2626) and that may be why I'm not seeing it.

you have to go to File>Preferences and click the green 'Pad Center
Position Calibration' button then follow the directions that come up.
it sounds like you are just looking at the Velocity Boost parameters.
those have nothing to do with the calibration routine.

i use winxp sp3 and vac shows up as a driver every time in my virtual
brain program. i've also sent audio into cubase using rewire as a
driver.

all you need to do is go to File>Preferences in the Virtual Brain
program and do a Center Position Recalibration to reset the center of
your pad to 0.

VAC not showing up as an audio driver

I want to use the VB app in Cubase, so I downloaded VAC and installed
it. Problem is the VB software doesn't see the driver. I've tried
several other applications and they see VAC fine. Any ideas? I am
running WinXP SP3, the latest VB software and the latest VAC. I have
an M-Audio Profire 2626.

your preset file has most likely been corrupted somehow. just
reinstall from the dvd, or download and install from the website.
