RALLY & MEDIA "STUNT"

OCTOBER 14TH. 12PM

KINGS SQUARE, FREMANTLE

Media Stunt: 12-12.30pm. We are putting our kids in a giant playpen to be "babysat" by a John Howard impersonator. Our messgae is: We are trying to get an education, but who is going to look after our children? Wiil you do it John Howard?

Rally: Begins 12.30pm. If you can- come dressed in the attire of your future proffession (Lawyer, Nurse etc). You could also make a sign / banner with the name of your future proffession to hold. We will bring some toys to keep the kids happy in the playpen- but please bring some of your own too. If you cant dress up- come anyway!

FOR 10 YEARS WE HAVE BEEN TOLD TO GET AN EDUCATION. But in those days we were helped with the aid of JET: Jobs, Education & Training program.

NOW THE GOVERNMENT, AS PART OF THEIR WELFARE TO WORK REFORMS, HAS CUT CHILDCARE ASSISTANCE FOR ANY COURSES LONGER THAN 12 MONTHS- Single parents are being forced out of degrees, Tafe courses and apprenticeships because we can't afford childcare costs (of $110 p/w for one child)- out of our welfare payments while we study.

EDUCATION IS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN GET US AND OUR CHILDREN OUT OF THE POVERTY TRAP: "Mummy, Mr Howard stole my JET"

Our Forum at Murdoch University on June 25th 07 forced the government to make a policy change that day- and give 12 months worth of JET assistance to all eligible parents- regardless of their entire course duration.

This proves that we can force policy change- but we must all stand together.

Very soon our 12 months will be up and we will be forced to drop out of our degrees and live in poverty.

We must continue the pressure now before it's too late.
