Subject: Deleted URL still shows in search results and will not go away
I'm not a webmaster, but hopefully someone here can answer this
question.

I had a forum administrator delete an entire discussion thread because
it was coming up in Google search results.  The entire thread and all
its associated URL's were in fact deleted, but they still continue to
appear in Google search results.  I've tried using the webpage removal
request tool, and it says that the URL has been removed successfully,
but is still appears even after that.

Can anyone give me a clue as to what is happening and why a deleted
URL still shows in search results after it was deleted and also
removed via the webpage removal request tool?

Hi SKrasna and welcome to the groups!

Oftentimes a forum will have many URLs that show the same content. Are
you sure you used the removal tool to have them all removed? Also keep
in mind that it might take a few days for the changes to take affect.

Hope it helps - please post back if you have any questions.

John

Hi John, and thank you so much for your warm welcome.

I believe that I used the removal tool to remove all the associated
URL's, but I will check.

Can it take a few days for the changes to appear even after using the
removal tool?  The exact URL's still appear one day later.  I thought
that the removal tool was supposed to make the natural process
quicker.  I used the tool because the URL's were still appearing in
the search results one week after the content was actually deleted.

Can something else be causing the results to appear for an extented
time even though the URL's have absolutely been removed from the third-
party site?  I'm reading in the help section about this sort of thing
happening if other webpages are still linking to the deleted content
or if the webmaster has meta tags or a robot.txt file.  I'm not
exactly sure what this means, and I don't know if this is happening
here or what I can do to find out and possibly resolve.

Thanks again.  I really appreciate your help.
