Subject: Errors in Sitemap (0) Http errors (0) Not Found (40) - NO URLS LISTED FOR NOT FOUND
The site once had over 300 Indexed pages to my site from Google.

The site had some pretty strong links coming in, I made the mistake of
'redesigning' the site for easier use.  Almost all of my pages URL's
changed because of my change of the permalink structure.  I figured
Google would pick this up from my Sitemap... OOOPS.

Even now according to the 'Sitemap stats' Google has indexed 319 URL's
on the sitemap.  Status OK (353 URL's in Sitempa)  Last downloaded 15
hours ago.

The 'Not found' crawl stats have 40 URL's that haven't existed on the
site for almost 6 months.  Only two of them have 'Link from' pages.
They show 'unavailable'.

In fact the now only 4 indexed pages from Google aren't even on my
sitemap. Two are PDF's.

Two more site are based on the exact same Wordpress theme and function
the exact same way.  Although the content is based on their unique
region.

One site has no index from Google at all.  The other has 292 indexed
pages (only 190 in the sitemap!).

The sites have no 'goal' pages as they are more of public information
sites, and yet they do serve a legitimate public purpose.

The sites:
http://bandittracker.com
http://georgiabankrobbery.com
http://bandittrackerarkansas.com

BanditTracker has brought tips to the FBI that has helped bring down
some dangerous criminals:

http://www.myfoxdfw.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail?contentId=4603111&ver...

http://karlkevilus.com/bandittrackerarkansascom-launched/

The FBI in Dallas actually links to the site from their press
releases:
http://dallas.fbi.gov/pressrel/2008/rewardoffer033108.htm

I am open to making whatever changes need to be made to fix this, but
it has to get fixed.  This site truly does server a public need, so
non-commercial that there isn't even Google Ads on there (is that a
problem?).

PLEASE HELP!

Hi Kark K,

The important thing to remember is that when you change URL's
the best practice is to 301 redirect the old URL's to the new.

Otherwise the Old URLs will return 404's in the search results,
Will disappear from the index and all value of those pages will be
lost.

if you hurry you can still fix this, Just implement the 301 redirects.

However, at this point there is likely to be some loss and
what recovery there will be will likely take months.

BTW- Sitemaps do not direct indexing, they are only
a supplement to the current crawl graph.

When you change URL's, Sitemaps are not going to
help or help much. They are typically more useful when
you add pages, not replace URL's.

That is why you need to implement 301 permanent
redirects from the old to the new as best you can.

Hope that helps,
Abracadabra

Will implementing the 301 redirects on the remaining '40' URL's help,
even though they aren't indexed ?

I'm a little concerned that there might some sort of 'duplicate'
content problem between the sites because of their similarity.

Why has BanditTrackerArkansas.com still never shown up in the Google
Index?  There has been several media events on it, and dozens of
inbound links.

Webmaster Tools is showing 25 URLs, but again, none show up on
Google.   The site has only been 'official' for about two months.
They've already made an arrest based on tips coming from the site, the
amazing thing is that they are getting tips without Google.  They must
have used Yahoo!

Thanks again,
Karl K
