Subject: hows does the geocoder read the information on adresses?
Hello all,

I am using a macro to geocode adresses into latitude longitude that
uses the google maps API to do so. However, i have had some trouble
understanding how the geocoder reads the information i give it. For
instance, if i give an adress in the following format and order:

street, house number - city - state - zip - country

will it read first the street and look for it then the number, then
make sure the city is right?
Or will it first read the country? Should i format my spreadsheet so
it starts with the reverse information order?
Any information on that topic can be useful.
This is all for an academic/pro bono thesis so all help would be
appreciated!
Thank You

Alexandre Spitz

It's not entirely clear to me, but the geocoder seems to expect the
form of address normally used in the relevant country.  In the UK for
example, it would be house number first then street. Other places
differ.
You may just have to experiment.

You still have to conform to the terms of use ; you may only use
Google's geocoder if you intend to display the results on a Google
map.

Thats what i have been trying to do.
I dont need lessons in how to comply with the rules and conditions, I
can read.
What I need is help in understanding the information processing by the
API.
Thank You

API does not process that information. API forwards that information
to Google servers. What happens inside Google Servers? Not many people
know.

The convenience of most spreadsheet applications is that you can
change the order even later.

As you mention spreadsheets, I would also recommend reading the Terms
of Use carefully once again.
